David John Evans, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, in St. George, Utah.
David was born on October 25, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clifford Percy Evans and Afton Robbins Evans. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sherril Smiley Evans, and his sister, Alice Evans Allred.
David attended both the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, where he met the love of his life, Sherril Smiley. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 21, 1961. In early 1966 he was offered a transfer at his job and moved to Cedar City where together they raised six kids and built a life filled with love, faith, and service.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David served three full-time missions and worked in the St. George Temple for thirty years—a calling he truly cherished. His life was a testament to his deep love for the gospel. He was a faithful and humble disciple of Jesus Christ, whose quiet strength and unwavering testimony touched the lives of many.
David is survived by his six children: Robert Evans, Rebecca Dixon (Doug Bull), Susan Evans Galetka (Rusty), Stephen Evans, Elizabeth Evans Robinson (Mathew) and Catherine Evans Peden. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren (with 3 more on the way), all of whom brought him immense joy and carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and devotion.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George, Utah. Family and friends are invited to attend and honor David’s remarkable life.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his faith, kindness, and the quiet example he set for all.
