Melodie Marie Weathers Holz – Tuesday February 6, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we inform all who knew and loved her that Melodie left her mortal existence on February 6, 2024. She was married to Michael David Weathers, her loving, devoted, and true partner for life. Her parents were Friedrich Heinrich and Evelyn May Soderstrom Holz. She was preceded in death by her two younger sisters, Diann and Pamela. She is survived by her husband Michael and two older siblings, sister Sharon and brother David (Cyndy). Nieces and nephews include Davin (Dawn), Annette (Mike), Ken Lindsay (Paige) Alexander, Vanessa (Zach), Sierra (Jake), Marisa, Richie (Shiena), Grant (Hali), were loved, adored, and doted on from their first breath. Then she started over with the next generation, Madison, Kyle (finally another boy), Shawnee, Maguire, Kyan, Rogan, Parker, Britney (Eliza), Maddy Mica, West and Sequoia. The third generation was equally welcomed, eight in all, bringing new laughter and playfulness to keep us young. Melodie loved each and every one of her family and always eagerly welcomed new members into the family with her infectious smile and warm greetings. She made sure they all felt like they belonged to our family.

Melodie graduated from South High School and was a member of the Pep Club. She graduated cum laude from the University of Utah with a degree in Political Science and International Relations. She worked at KUED during that time. She then went on to be a social worker for the State of Utah. Next, she worked for Squibb Pharmaceutical as a sales representative for the southern Utah counties, receiving several achievement awards. She enjoyed working at Intrade, an Import/Export company, that gave her the opportunity of traveling to Japan. A subsidiary company was formed at Intrade as Anagraphic Systems, with a partnership between Bill Buchanan, Melodie Holz and David Holz, product design, promotion and marketing was with two drafting machines, Design Pro and the Ellipse Pro, both of which were promoted nationwide via every major trade shows, from Los Angeles / Long Beach, to Chicago, Indianapolis, New York City, Washington D.C., Miami, Salt lake City.

Melodie became interested in real estate and obtained a Utah Real Estate License which led her to purchasing various types of real estate. Her last purchase was an historic home built in 1885. This property had become her passion, preserving and making restorations, and eventually became registered with the National and State Registries. The home was listed on the Utah Heritage Foundation House Tour in 1983.

Melodie obtained her Insurance License from the Utah Insurance Division and became an independent insurance agent. She joined and was a partner in the Senior Specialist Insurance Group and chose to participate in the Medicare supplement area and Prescription Drug Plans. She became acquainted with many different insurance companies which allowed her to offer choices and the best product fit for each client. She contributed greatly to the Group, built her successful business developing a strong clientele base, gaining their trust and confidence, receiving many referrals. After twenty plus years in the business, she and Mike decided to retire and spend time traveling. Their last trip was joining friends in Mexico, during January 2020, leaving the cold weather behind.

Melodie was fearless. She enjoyed adventurous activities. She went to flight school located at the Salt Lake City airport, did her training on a small Cessna, and received her pilots license to fly small aircraft. She was not hesitant to try bungee jumping and zip lining in Costa Rica. She liked to ski on the Greatest Snow on Earth – Utah of course, back when only two skis were used and wearing blue jeans were popular during Spring skiing. There was the time we spotted Robert Redford in front of us waiting in line to get on the ski lift at Park City. Most surprising was that he wasn’t very tall. No one made seeing him a big deal. Ski and let ski!

Traveling was definitely something she loved to do with trips to Asia and Europe. Melodie and Mike became world travelers, enjoying every place they would visit with many trips to Europe, South America, Central America, Mexico, Asia, and from one end to the other across the United States, as well as throughout Utah.

Melodie loved to entertain and opened her homes to family and friends. She exuded beauty in her persona, her surroundings, many talents, too numerus to mention, and was an avid reader. She chose Michael to be her life partner, whom we love and always learn from. They complemented each other perfectly and have set an exemplary example to follow.

Our father gave Melodie her name, but our mother insisted that it be spelled with an “ie” not a “y”. Her mother did not want her to be known as a (tune), Melodie did not like the nickname Mel. That was not a problem for us. She was the middle child, number three of five. Family was important to her, demonstrated in so many ways. We were so fortunate to have her in our lives and so grateful for her generosity, support in each of our endeavors, accepting us for who we are. Our lives are now changed without her, but we have our memories with her that will live on in our hearts until we meet once again.

If you had Melodie in your court, you were in good hands. Several were the recipient of her compassion and help. Melodie made many friends along the way; to know Melodie was to love her.
