Zelda grew up in a large family with 11 siblings where she learned many of life’s important lessons. She attended primary school in Kanosh and graduated from Millard High, where she met the love of her life, Alan Morrell Mathews.

Alan and Zelda were sealed for Time and Eternity in the Manti Temple Sept. 3, 1952; they would have been married 70 years this Sept. The young couple made their home in Scipio, Utah, and welcomed four daughters, Annette, Leisa, Glenda and Allene. Zelda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She used her many talents to make a wonderful homelife for her family. She was a loving neighbor and friend who found great joy in serving by sharing her delicious breads, special cakes and treats. And if she could leave the bread or treat anonymously, it made her especially happy imagining her friend finding it and wondering who might have left it.

Zelda taught by example; she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many ward and stake callings and supported Alan in all of his callings. She worked with the youth of the church, 4-H and Scouts. Zelda was a member of the Daughters-of-the-Utah Pioneers and was very proud of her pioneer heritage. One of the highlights of her life was her service to the Lord as she and Alan served together as ordinance workers in the historic Manti LDS Temple for 19 years. They loved serving the Lord and the special associations they formed while doing that sacred work.

One year the family made a plaque to present to our mother, Zelda, and these are words that we chose to describe our angel mother: Loyal, Fresh Bread, Apricot Jam, Doll Clothes, Mother Superior, Easter Picnics, Quilts, Temple Worker, Selfless Service and Grandma Z.

Grandma Z’s last words to the family were, “Always keep loving each other.”

Zelda is survived by her loving husband, Alan Mathews of Scipio, UT; daughters, Annette (Ron) Sabin of Escondido, CA; Leisa Carling of Fillmore, UT; Glenda (Jack) Hoggatt of Heber City, UT; Allene (Jan) Anderson of Orem, UT; a brother, Raymon Prows of Kanosh, UT; 33 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00 am with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service at the Scipio Ward Chapel, 80 West 100 North Scipio, Utah. Friends and family may also call Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Scipio Ward Chapel. Online condolences and Live Zoom Link at rasmussenmortuary.com in her obituary.
