William Hans Rasmussen, 58 yrs. old, graduated from this mortality we call “life” on May 17,2024. He died peacefully in his sleep, being welcomed home into the arms of all those loved ones who went before him. Hans was born on May 26, 1965, in Logan, Utah to “goodly parents” Donald Robison Rasmussen (1936-2020) and Kayanne Een Rasmussen (1939-2020). From a young age, Hans was taught and cherished the values of hard work, diligence, persistence, responsibility, and a love and thirst for the gospel and the gold of knowledge he could find in the scriptures. Hans was the oldest of four siblings: his brothers Shon and McKay and his sister Keisa. Before Hans turned 16 yrs. old, he had the opportunity to go to Hawaii to pick pineapples for six months. He came away from that experience with a love for the people of Maui and Lanai, and a prelude of what it’s like to preach the gospel. Hans graduated from Millard High School in 1983, leaving the legacy of team captain of his wrestling team, and played guard next to his brother Shon on the football team, which took away the title of State Champions two years in a row. Go Eagles! Hans, in his senior year, was class president and was “tricked” into playing the lead role of Conrad in the musical “Bye, Bye, Birdie”. Hans joined the Army National Guard (1983-1992), going to bootcamp the day after graduation, for three months. There he formed lifelong friendships. Afterwards, Hans was called to an 18-month mission to the Minneapolis, Minnesota Mission (1984-1986), where “many are cold, but few are frozen”. By the time he came home, he had been able to extend his mission another six more months, having served as an AP to his beloved mission president and wife, Edward and Judy Bennett. Hans married Gwendolyn Irene Nielsen (1963-2005), who also served in the same mission, on August 28, 1987, in the Manti, Utah Temple. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters: Chelsea Marie and Emma Ann. Fourteen years later, Hans divorced, moved his girls back to Brigham City to live with his parents and go back to school. He graduated three years later Summa Cum Laude from Utah State with a bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing. Hans had a way with words, both written and spoken, and used this unique talent throughout his career. In 2006 Hans married his “redhead”, the love of his life, Kimberly Ann Phippen, on May 20th in the Mtn. Timpanogos Temple. They were what Hans liked to say, the “modern day Brady Bunch” He brought his two daughters, she brought her two sons, Trey and Zachary and then together they had one of each: Spencer and Rachel. 18 wonderful years of marriage brought together two separate families that bonded into one eternal family: 6 children, 2 wonderful son in-laws, a soon-to-be daughter in-law, and 5 beautiful grandchildren. Hans will ever be known by his children for his love of the gospel, his willingness to stand for their greatness, his character voices when he’d read to them, his laughter and endless teasing, his wrestling on the living room floor, playing the guitar, hiking, and his love and concern for each and every one of them. In the last six years of his life, Hans became intimately acquainted with pain, his never-ending nemesis, that consistently became worse after having gone through 8 surgeries in total for his left shoulder and the detrimental and debilitating arthritis that also began in his right shoulder, eclipsing the pain in his left shoulder, plus other debilitating health challenges. He gave his all to his wife and his family, he persevered, he was a champion of champions in the Dad-world and in the end, he could go no further. We will forever miss him and hope to honor the legacy he has left behind.

Hans is survived by his wife and children: Kimberly, Chelsea (Scott Hicks), Emma (Tanner Ivie), Trey (fiancé Rachel Furnell), Zachary, Spencer, and Rachel. 5 beautiful grandchildren: Kamri, Tyler, Raegan, Draven and Relik. His brothers Shon (Sherilyn), McKay (Julia) and sister Keisa Martinez. His in-laws: John and Ivie Phippen, and his brother and sister in-laws from his wife’s family: Stephanie (Jason Cooper), John (Jill), Amy (Jason Despain), Justin (Karen), Samuel (Candace) and Robert (Starr). And 34 nephew and nieces who loved “Uncle Hans”. He is preceded in death by his parents Don and Kay.

Viewings Monday, May 27, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Brigham City 3rd Ward Relief Society room and Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 9:00 am to 10:15 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the 3rd ward building, located at 203 West, 200 North, Brigham City, Utah. Interment at Fillmore City Cemetery.
