William Miles (Bill) Gubler

Oct 24, 1954 – Oct 15, 2026

William Miles (Bill) Gubler, 71, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2026. He was born October 24, 1954, in Fort Ord, California, to Dale and Sheree Miles Gubler.

Growing up in Santa Clara, Utah, Bill learned to work at an early age. He helped milk cows, feed cattle, and drive the silage truck before he could see over the dashboard. He loved helping his grandfather, Archie, turn the water in Panguitch, Utah, during the summers. In his very limited free time, Bill enjoyed playing ring the bell and cooling off in the Boys Pond.

His greatest enjoyment, however, came from working with cattle. He especially loved the fall, when he could go on roundups with his dad and uncles to gather calves.

Bill attended Dixie High School, where he was selected to attend Boys State, a prestigious week-long leadership program. There, he gained skills that would later serve him well in leadership positions with the Utah Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau, Western AgCredit, and the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA).

During high school, Bill rode bulls at the Dixie Roundup and stayed on for all eight seconds! He was also instrumental in making sure the Santa Clara Thanksgiving Day Rodeo was successful, a commitment he continued after returning from his mission.

Bill was called to serve as an LDS missionary in the England London South Mission. Although it was difficult for him to leave Santa Clara, he embraced the opportunity to serve and grew to love the people he met.

After returning home, Bill attended Utah State University, where he obtained his Master Butcher Certificate. He returned to Santa Clara and worked as a butcher. He also framed houses and built two spec homes while saving his money to buy a ranch.

In October 1977, Bill married Jodie Huskinson. They were blessed with three children: Kaden Gubler, Zachary Gubler, and Nathan Brock Gubler. Bill later married Julie Burdick Anthony, and four more children became part of the family: Ian Anthony, Chase Anthony, Devin Anthony, and Sierra Anthony.

Bill was thrilled when he was finally able to fulfill his dream of ranching full-time. He loved improving the feed on the Arizona Strip and had a deep understanding of what the land and cattle needed. He was an innovator in developing range rotations, boosting grass and browse growth, and formulating feed supplements that improved cattle health while also benefiting local wildlife. He also enjoyed helping and teaching other ranchers how to improve their own herds.

Bill was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several ward callings.

Bill spent an enormous amount of time in his truck. Most mornings, you could find him at Maverik or Lin’s in Santa Clara, driving his white Dodge Ram, wearing a cap with his 711 brand on it, and chewing bubble gum. The truck was filthy. Turn the blower past 2 and you got a face full of dirt. He kept a stash of donuts, Twinkies, and barbecue chips, and he stopped for every kid he saw to hand out treats. Several of those kids called him Bubble Gum. Others called him Master Twinkie or Master Treat Master. His grandkids called him Papa Bill, Papa, or Pops.

Next time you see a dusty white Dodge Ram with a four-wheeler in the back, throw up a hand. He’s headed somewhere with fence to fix, but he’ll wave back.

Bill is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Kaden (Mardi) Gubler, Zachary Gubler, Nathan Brock Gubler, Ian (Corinne) Anthony, Chase Anthony, Devin Anthony, and Sierra Anthony; and his grandchildren, Whitney Gubler, Lauren Gubler, Kate Gubler, and Colton Gubler, whom he adored. He is also survived by his mother, Sheree Gubler; his siblings, Cami (Clayton) Leavitt, Shandon (Sue) Gubler, Lonne (Nancy) Gubler, Tom (Lisa) Gubler, Heather (Wade) Ovard, and Megan (Bart) Smith; and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Dale Gubler.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 (which would have been Bill’s 72nd birthday), at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Clara Valley Chapel, 3040 Santa Clara Drive, Santa Clara, Utah. A viewing will be held at the same location on Friday, October 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Santa Clara City Cemetery, Ancestor Way, Santa Clara, Utah.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454.
