Aug 24, 1936 Aug 31, 2023

Wayne C Brown, who was born to Clara and Ed Brown at his home in Holladay, Utah on Aug. 24, 1936, died Aug. 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in his Holladay, Utah home – 100 yards away from where he was born.

Wayne always said he had a perfect childhood spending time with his brothers and cousins. He was in the first graduating class of Olympus High School in 1954.

On June 10, 1957, Wayne married Janet Estella Pehrson in the Salt Lake Temple. Wayne and Janet had five children – Stephen, Michelle, Jennifer, Jeffrey and Leslie.

Education was important to Wayne. He received his bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in zoology from the University of Utah. Wayne worked as a teacher at Granite Park Jr. High School for several years and at Salt Lake Community College.

After retiring, Wayne worked in one of his other passions, yard work. He started his own business – Brown Maintenance. Without ever cutting corners, Wayne beautified several residential and commercial properties around the Salt Lake area.

Wayne was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many callings in bishoprics, elder’s quorum presidencies, and he spent years working with the young men.

Wayne loved working and serving in the temple. Him and Janet served a mission as temple workers in the Washington D.C. Temple from 2002 to 2003. He then served several years as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple, until it closed for renovations in 2019.

Wayne was a lifelong student and loved to learn new things. He was smart, kind, funny and charitable. He loved being outdoors and was a gardener, hunter, fisherman and beekeeper. He was an amazing baseball and softball player.

Some of Wayne’s favorite places to travel to were Yellowstone National Park, Flaming Gorge, the family cabin in Idaho along the Teton River and the Book Cliffs in Eastern Utah.

Wayne was a Utah Man and loyally cheered on the Utes in both the winning and losing seasons. He was a season ticket holder for the Utah basketball team for 50 years.

Most of all, Wayne loved his family. He loved Janet more than anything and was thinking of her and how to serve her until the end. Wayne has 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He found pride and joy in his family.

Wayne was survived by his wife Janet, daughter Michelle (Joe Hanna), daughter Jennifer (Scott Brown), son Jeff (Chantal), daughter Leslie (Brian Paul) and daughter in- law Cindy Brown; brothers Gary (Reta) and Gordon Brown; brothers-in-law Paul Pehrson (Karen), David Pehrson (Gloria) and Bob Allred; sisters-in-law Pat (Dave Ricks) and Lindy Pehrson.
