He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was ordained a Priest in Heidelberg in 1960. Two years later he was called to serve a building mission to Switzerland where he helped build local Church buildings. After his mission, he received a sponsor to come to San Francisco, CA and left his family behind. Later he moved to Utah where he met his sweetheart in the German Speaking Ward. Where many years later, in 1993 he was called to serve as the Bishop and served with his whole heart for 26 years. He served and loved every member unconditionally. Volker also served the members of Utah First Credit Union on the Board of Directors for many years. He also had his own cabinet business in which he designed many kitchens and cabinets which were beyond the most beautiful craftsmanship. His work was often referred to him by word of mouth. His love of woodworking kept him happy and fulfilled and it also gave him the opportunity to help renovate the Hawaii Temple in the 70’s. He retired from Questar where he worked for over 20 years.
