Vili Fonongaloa Mila passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2021 in Glendale, Utah. Vili was born on November 23, 1940, in Tongatapu, Tonga to Sione Fehoko Mila of Ngele’ia and Kalesita Uinita Nai of Fuaamotu. Vili was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and worked as a construction service missionary in Liahona where he met his eternal companion, Mele Laukau Tua’one, married on January 27, 1966. They had 10 children and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1980.

Vili immigrated with his family from the islands of Tonga in 1978 to Salt Lake City Utah where he resided until his passing. Vili was a hardworking provider and although he had many friends his age, he was often found with the younger crowd entertaining them with his stories and jokes.

Vili was known for his faith in the Lord, his sense of humor, generosity, and his commitment to his family. Vili served in the church in several leadership positions, including Bishop and Seventy. His beloved wife Mele passed away in 2000. He later married Ungatea (Lupe) Mahe.

Vili is preceded in death by Sione Fehoko Mila (father), Kalesita Uinita Nai (mother), Mele Laukau Tua’one Mila (wife), Sione Mila (son), Maliu Moeau Mila (son), Lisa Marie Mila (daughter), Sepiuta Mila (daughter), Vaihola Kava’efiafi Mila (brother).

Vili is survived by his wife Ungatea (Lupe) Mahe. Sons: Timote Nai Mila, Sione Mila (Portia), Aiveni Steve Mila, Etuate Patalisi Mila (Tupou), Sunia Kava’efiafi Mila-Tua’one (Lexi), Semisi Vaihola Mila (Meliani). Granddaughters: Tina Amelia Mila, Tasia Leilani Mila, Akesa Laukau Mila, Candace Rose Mila, Kalesita Uinita Nai Mila, Anau Manavaofa Kiarra Mila-Tua’one, Mele Laukau Mila, Amelia Seini Mila, Lisa Marie Mila, Mele Lilevai Peti Mila-Tua’one, Seini Sepiuta Muriel Mila, Mila Fallon Mila-Tua’one, Faka’anaua Leilani Mila, Lupe Tu’u-Lelei Mila. Grandsons: Vilinai Stranz Mila, Sunia Zachary Mila-Tua’one, Vili Fononga Mila, Sione Fehoko Mila, Christopher Afimeimo’unga Mila, Maliu Moeau Mila. Great-grandaughter: Lillian Rose Mila.

Funeral services are being held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pioneer Ward, 1621 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Viewings will be held on Friday evening, April 30, 2021 from 7:00 – 10:00 PM, and again on Saturday morning prior to the funeral from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. Interment to follow the services at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
