Verona Maxwell Lewis

Sep 18, 1936 May 17, 2025

Verona was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed.

Verona was born on September 18, 1936 in Peoa, Utah. She married her sweetheart, Kent Lewis on October 14, 1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple, for time and all eternity. They were married 71 years.

Verona grew up on a farm and loved animals. She was the Oakley Rodeo Queen and loved barrel racing. She played the piano beautifully and often played until her children fell asleep at night. Verona taught her children and those around her by her example. She served others and showed her children how to be the best versions of themselves. Verona served faithfully in all her church callings including primary president, young women's president and relief society president, many of which were leadership for girls and women. She was a strong advocate for women in the community as well, counseling unwed mothers, and she pioneered, church wide, the first women’s conference, Especially for Women, which is now known as Time Out for Women, while she served as stake relief society president. She provided a listening ear, without judgement for all those around her. She had a keen intellect and a gift of true empathy.

Verona had a voracious love of books and reading, that she passed onto her children. She made reading magical, introducing her children to every topic and place through books from the local library. The library often had to order books for Verona to read to keep up with her appetite for reading.

Verona not only impacted the lives of her children, but the lives of those friends and family that had the opportunity to be in her home and family life over the years. Anyone who had the chance to spend time talking with Verona, was impacted by her love for them. Verona will be dearly missed, she was beloved for being classy and sweet with a great sense of humor, by those who knew her best. Her family knows that she will visit often as a guardian angel watching over those that she loves.

Verona is preceded in death by her son, Gary, and granddaughter, Katey Jo Warr, and great granddaughter, Rylynn Olsen.

Verona is survived by her sweetheart, Kent Lewis, daughters, Shelly Lewis, Jeanne Cool (Steve), Kerri Lewis, and sons Gary Lewis, deceased, (Laura), Russell Lewis (Jean). Grandchildren, Stacie Childs (James), Kendra Sorenson (Tom), Brandon Beck (Erin), Anthony Cool (Rachel), Angela Cool, Alise Cool (Libjeer), Aaron Cool, Josh Lewis (Christine), John Lewis (Chelsea), Breanna Best (Cody), Ciara Olsen (Tovik), Jake Lewis (Linda), Anne Morgan (Skyler), Ben Warr (Kenzie), Jessie Warr Brown (Makayla), and Ava Verona Lewis, thirty three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
