Vern Roland Grow, a life-long resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, peacefully passed away August 16, 2021 at the age of 89 in Draper, Utah.

Vern was born in Salt Lake City, UT on December 2, 1931 to Vadis Ardella Arnold and Vern Marco Grow. Vern grew up in Salt Lake City and went to Granite Junior High School and Granite High School. He was the President at Granite Junior High School and Senior Class President at Granite High School in 1950. During his years at Granite High School he played football, basketball and ran track as his main sport where he set a state record in the 4 x 400 relay. He met his sweetheart Janice Sheffield on a blind date and were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 19, 1953. During their marriage, Vern and Janice raised 3 children, the oldest, Terry, who was born premature and lived only 3 hours, and Debbie and Kevin.

Vern had a passion for photography and spent many years taking photographs and developing pictures of family and landscapes. Vern and Janice enjoyed visiting National Parks and religiously went to Zions National Park on their vacations year after year. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including Elder Quorum President and High Priest Group leadership.

Vern is survived by his wife, Janice Grow; his sisters, Sharon Grow, and Janice (Dennis) Hansen; his children, Debbie (Jack) Montgomery and Kevin (Renee) Grow; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Vern Marco Grow and Vadis Ardella Arnold, his son Terry and sister Marlene James. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Canyon Rim 2nd Ward, 3000 Grace St. (3100 East) in Millcreek, Utah. Family and friends may visit prior to services on Friday for a viewing from 10:00 – 11:30. Interment at Elysian Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S.

There was a time during my high school years when Debbie and I were inseparable. We spent time cooking in their kitchen. And, I will never forget dressing up and Vern taking our photos. I still have those photos of us as young ladies. I'm blessed to continue my friendship with Debbie.
