Venice Goodsell Spencer

Mar 22, 1934 Dec 22, 2023

Venice Goodsell Spencer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother passed away at home on December 22, 2023.

Venice was born in Newton Utah to Grover William and Maud Thompson Goodsell on March 22, 1934. She was the youngest of five children. She attended North Cache High school. She married Glen Carlton Spencer in August 1951, and they were married 52 years. They made their home in Salt Lake City where they raised five children. They enjoyed traveling after dad retired. After dad's passing mom continued to travel with her kids and grandkids.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many different callings during her life including in the organizations of Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society. Mom excelled in providing service to others such as making many meals for family, neighbors and friends. She provided rides for those who needed them and genuinely cared about others.

Mom loved to quilt and crochet and taught many the art of both of these. She crocheted altar cloths for the Salt Lake Temple and the Denver Temple. Each of her 53 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild received a crocheted baby blanket, as did many other friends and neighbors. She crocheted more than 350 snowflake ornaments to be hung on the Christmas tree and gave a set of 20 of these to each of her five children, all of her 18 grandchildren, and to other friends as well. They will be a cherished remembrance of her every Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Dan, and a great grandson (Joshua Lane). She is survived by daughter-in-law Terri Spencer, son Jeff (Sandy) Spencer, daughter Debbie (Tom) Knorr, daughter Chris (Alan) Rogers and son Doug (Eileen) Spencer, 18 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Services will be held on Saturday December 30, 2023 at the church at 1163 West 800 North in Salt Lake City with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 and the funeral at 11:00. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.

For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom. Please visit her obituary page at www.larkinmortuary.com for information.
