He was raised in Plain City where his heart resided his entire life. His family used to joke with him that you can take the boy out of Plain City but you can never take Plain City out of the boy. He attended Weber High School and Weber State University where he earned a degree in Graphic Design.

Val married Diane Ashdown on October 11, 1985 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised 5 sons, who he was extremely proud of, and 2 dogs.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints and served in many ward callings.

He was employed at Boeing as a Designer. He truly loved his job and the people he worked with. He was an outdoorsman at heart. In his younger years he was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, or skiing. At a young age he was involved in an industrial accident which resulted in the loss of a leg. As it became more and more difficult for him to do the things he loved most, his fascination with Bigfoot kept him occupied. He enjoyed reading, watching, or talking about anything Bigfoot related.

Val was preceded in death by his father, his grandmother Vacona Singleton, his stepfather Arthur Bellingham and his grandparents. All of whom he loved and missed dearly.

He is survived by his wife, his children, Zachary and Jennessa Kapp, Syracuse, UT, Jordan and Amanda Kapp, Eagle Mountain, UT, Alex Kapp, Roy, UT, Kory and Amber Kapp, West Haven, UT, and Brandan and Kassidy Kapp, West Haven, UT; nine of the most adorable grandchildren; his mother, Clara Jean Bellingham, South Ogden, UT; his brother, Neldon (Jan) Kapp, Perry, UT; his step mother, Mary Kapp, Mission, TX; two step brothers, Mike (Raquel) Merrill, Palmhurst, TX and Ken Merrill, San Antonio, TX; father and mother in-law Larry and Norma Ashdown, Sunset, UT; A brother in-law and two sister-in-laws, David (Kathy) Ashdown, Casa Grande, AZ, Shelley (Eric) Bertagnolli, Clinton, UT, Annette (Wayne) Johnson, Enoch, UT; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends.

Diane, Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family at this sorrowful time, Doug & Natalie Carty.

I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Val when he decided to have his leg amputated.

I worked at Ogden O&P for Jerry Nelson, and made all of his legs. We became the best of friends. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word towards all he met.

When I started working foe Hanger O&P, I was so glad that I could continue to help him.

He always asked about my two daughters and showed a sincere interest in their lives.

I will surely miss my friend and pray for him and his family. You were a great friend, Ed.
