It saddens me deeply to have to write that the most amazing husband, father and grandfather was taken from us far too soon. He was always loving, kind, humorous, generous and the most positive person you could ever meet.  He joined the Air Force in 1965 and met the love of his life in 1968 while stationed at Cigli Air Force base in Turkey.  They married at Offutt Air Force Base on June 2, 1969. Mom and Dad enjoyed their adventure of traveling to different bases and countries during his service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing while stationed in Alaska. After retiring from the Air Force in 1985, Dad received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. We then relocated to Utah in 1987.  Dad worked for the University of Utah as Assistant Director of Residential Living from 1988-2003. During that time he helped to oversee the building of the Olympic Village.  Leaving the University he worked for P.C. Evergreen Construction, building student housing. At that time he and mom fulfilled a life long dream of building their retirement home where they have lived since 2007. In 2007 Dad went to work for Salt Lake County. After retiring from there, he enjoyed seeking out and selling old car parts while restoring different vehicles of his own. He enjoyed playing cards at the senior center and having coffee with old/new friends.  He loved antiques of all kinds, especially clocks.  He loved his black powder shoots with his mountain man brothers and sisters.

Ted tutored me in writing when I was a junior/senior in high school. My writing was horrendous but Ted's influence allowed me to improve it. With his help, I was admitted to the Honors College at the U. Since then, I have immersed myself in studying and will soon start a new chapter as a graduate student. I am positive that without his guidance, I would not be where I am today. I am deeply saddened that he is not with us anymore.

When I started at the U in the Office of Residential Living (ORL), Ted was the one that took me on tour of the residence halls. He had such pride in what was built, not in the glamour of what he had helped to accomplish, but in knowing that he was a part of building a home for students at the U. I posted his obituary to the Facebook page for ORL, now known as Housing & Residential Education. There are comments there from past RAs and others who worked with Ted during their time. It is located here: https://www.facebook.com/HREunion

I am deeply saddened by the loss of this fine man. I am grateful to have worked with Ted at the U during the preparations for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and thereafter. I shared the table with a kind, incredibly knowledgeable and wise man as we worked with our architects and contractors in the planning, designing and construction of our new student housing and renovations of the Officers Circle Duplexes serving as the Athlete's Village. Ted was absolutely dedicated, and seemingly tireless, in his efforts.

Ted was so supportive of me in my responsibilities as a team member, and a example who helped me grow professionally.

Bonus: I knew I always had a kind friend in Ted.

Thank you, Ted. It was grand!

This is such sad news. Ted made the world a kinder place. I had the privilege of working with Ted at The U prior, during, and after the Olympics. From day one, Ted shared his knowledge and expertise with me in regards to facilities, keys, and building security. We worked together preparing for the Salt Lake Winter Olympics ensuring the residence halls closings and openings were a smooth transition for the students that lived on campus. Ted always stayed true to who he was and could be stern and kind in the same breath. I am grateful that I had an opportunity to learn from him. My heart goes out to his family and friends during this difficult time.

I worked with Ted from 2001-2003 at the University of Utah when he was the Assistant Director of Facilities Management. I was a new professional in the field of Student Affairs and Ted was a resource of information who was always willing to take the time to coach me. Ted educated me about building management and had a way with making me feel at ease and valued as I kept asking questions.

I can still see Ted’s quick smile and hear his deep laugh in my mind.

I hope Ted’s family and friends are surrounding with love during this difficult time.

I am sorry for your loss.

I worked with Ted on many projects at the University of Utah and also when he went to work for Salt Lake County.

Ted was one of the most fair people I have ever met.

He made sure credit was given where it was due.

I worked with Ted for several years while working for Student Housing. He was always kind, had a quick smile & had a way of making people laugh and look at the bright side of things. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My deepest coldoulances to the family

I met Ted over 10 years ago when he became involved with the Chevy/GMC truck club. He graciously served as club president from 2009-10 and supported the organization the entire time until it dissolved in 2018. During that time, we got to enjoy sharing numerous officer meeting breakfasts, and other club functions together. He was always so respectful, soft spoken, and compassionate. I wish to extend warm thoughts to the Lazenby family during this difficult time, but take comfort in knowing how fortunate you are from knowing, loving, and benefitting from such a truly remarkable man. He will live forever in your heart and soul.

Ted and grew to become friends playing cards at Sandy Senior Center - I liked him - I believe everything you said about is true - it sounds like the man I knew. I miss him already and will especially miss him dealing cards for me when I wasn't able.

I know he will be greatly missed by me at well.

Ted has been such a great friend to Eric and all of our family. Our boys loved when Ted would come visit and look at cars and trucks with them. He always took the time to listen to and spend time with them. Eric loved going on adventures with Ted and being part of the truck club with him and spending time with him at car shows. Angela appreciated how he welcomed her into the car show group without question, and always made her feel so welcome. He will be greatly missed. All of the family is in our hearts and prayers!

Ted was a great friend and co-worker. What fun we had junk-yarding and finding those old treasures. Ted was always fun to be with and had such a positive out-look, I will miss him. My condolences to his loved ones.
