Susan Louise McDevitt Keel, age 75, died peacefully April 25, 2021 in Salt Lake City.
She was born June 25, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hugh Thorell McDevitt and Aseneth Sorenson McDevitt. She attended school in Salt Lake City and married William E. Keel in Elko, Nevada.
In her career, she served the elderly with their health care needs. She enjoyed singing and laughing with them, and she found joy in making the day brighter for someone else.
Susie, as her family called her, loved old classic movies, Mickey Mouse, crocheting, reading novels, collecting meaningful, inspirational thoughts and 60s music. She loved singing along and doing her “moves” to the music. She found joy in simple things and that helped her endure the difficult times. When it came right down to the end, her Catholic faith, family and friends were what were important to her.
Susan is survived by her stepbrothers and their wives: Harold and Kathryn Smith of Orem, UT and David and Claudia Smith, of Taylorsville, UT. She is also survived by her nieces Leslee Macygin and Jodi Bellavigna of Houston, Texas and many loving extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Carolyn McDevitt Meyer, and her stepmother, Nina Smith McDevitt.
At Susan’s request, there will be a Memorial Mass, Friday, June 25th, 12:00 noon at St. Ann’s Catholic Church (2119 South 500 East), in Salt Lake City. That same day, a brief celebration of life and graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. The gravesite is best accessed by entering the most northeast cemetery gate off of 11th Avenue (within the cemetery the grave site is near 1150 East 355 North).
Friday, June 25th is Susan’s birthday and it will be an appropriate day to show our love and appreciation for her good life.
The family wishes to offer their thanks to Coventry Assisted Living in Holladay and Cascades at Riverwalk in Midvale, Utah for their attentive care of Susan.
