Stewart "Kirk" Raymond Kirkpatrick

Stewart Raymond Kirkpatrick (Kirk) was born on July 20, 1932, in Sioux City, Iowa. He passed away on December 19, 2021, in Summerlin, Nevada. He lived in Nevada for the last nine years with his second wife, Nadine Robins Perom Kirkpatrick.

Kirk spent his childhood in Peabody, Kansas with parents Alfred Parn and Pearl Allen Kirkpatrick. As the oldest of six children, Kirk served as his siblings’ friend and protector. He saved his brother Dick from drowning. He taught his sister Judie how to tie her shoes backwards, which she still does. Kirk was voted most likely to succeed in his Peabody Kansas High School class. There is no doubt he lived up to his classmates’ expectations. In 1954, Kirk graduated from Grinnell College and received a commission in the U.S. Air Force. He met Alice Elaine Probert (Elaine) in Las Vegas Nevada while stationed at Nellis Airforce Base. He won her over by serenading her with classic tunes like “Ain’t She Sweet”. They were married in Scipio, Utah on June 1, 1956. Their marriage was filled with humor, overwhelming respect, and friendship.

During his Air Force career, Kirk was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, in Ankara, Turkey, the Pentagon, the Air Force Academy and at Camp Smith in Hawai’i. While there, he was part of “Operation Freedom”. He also served in Korea and Vietnam. In 1975 Kirk transferred to Hill Field in Layton Utah and moved to Farmington Utah. He retired from the Air Force in 1976 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. After his military service, Kirk worked at Intermountain Mountain Health Care in Salt Lake City, Utah, until his retirement in 1988. Kirk and Elaine resided in Farmington for 32 years.

In an answer to Elaine’s prayers, Kirk was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1983. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1984. Elaine and Kirk served three full-time missions together, one in Hawai’i and two back-to-back missions in Istanbul, Turkey. Kirk and Elaine were ordinance workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple. Kirk lovingly sacrificed and cared for Elaine during her decades-long battle with cancer. Following Elaine’s death, Kirk married Nadine Robins Perom in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 5, 2012. Nadine and Elaine grew up together in Scipio. Kirk continued to serve as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas temple. Kirk and Nadine were approaching their 10th wedding anniversary at Kirk’s death.

Kirk is survived by Nadine (her nephew Rick Palzer); Stewart (his wife Kelly, six grandchildren, and 18⅞ great-grandchildren); Mark (his wife Sue, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren); Jenny (her husband Chris, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren); and sisters Judie Kirkpatrick of Omaha, Nebraska and Sally Almquist of Bloomington, Minnesota. Kirk is predeceased by his parents and his brothers Dick, Riley, and Jack.

Kirk was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved Elaine’s cooking, golfing, history, socks, cats, and sports. It was a typical lazy afternoon to find him snoring in a chair with not a hair out of place. Blighted with poor hearing, Kirk never lost his keen sense of humor. His grandkids remember a loving grandfather armed with a drawer of trickery and a quick wit. Some of their fondest memories are of him singing “Once in Love with Amy” and “The Good Ship Lollypop,” as well as sharing stories from his adventures all over the world. He will be greatly missed.

Kirk’s funeral is January 8, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Scipio Ward building, Scipio, Utah. He will be buried following the service in the Scipio cemetery.
