Shirley Kaye was born with her twin sister on January 25th, 1951 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Mary Elizabeth Miller and Lawrence Raymond Summersett, joining their two older daughters Elaine and Bonnie. When only nine months old, Shirley lost her father in a tragic accident, leaving her mother to raise the four sisters. When Shirley was a teenager, the young family moved to California. It was there that Shirley investigated and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to which she paid the full measure of her devotion, remaining a staunch believer through the end of her days on Earth.

After joining the church, Shirley studied at the University of California Santa Cruz, before transferring to Brigham Young University. Later, while working at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, Shirley met her lifelong love and eternal partner, Frank Milner, and they soon married. The small family moved to West Jordan, where they welcomed three children, Adam, Joe, and Becky.

As her family, we have many fond memories of the unconditional love she showed us, and how much joy she brought to everyone around her. She was always excited for Christmas, and would spend months choosing and preparing many different carefully chosen gifts for everyone in the family, and would then delight in showering us with them on Christmas Day. She always made sure we chose a Halloween costume far in advance, so that she could purchase the material and sew the costumes herself. Our birthdays were always special, with a homemade cake she carefully baked and decorated just for us.

Shirley enjoyed playing the violin, and we remember her practicing musical pieces over and over in the living room. She was happy to have the opportunity later to return to BYU, where she studied and played her violin in a campus orchestra, completing an Associate of Arts in University Studies degree in 1989.

Shirley loved us, and we loved her very deeply. She shielded us from many of the ugly truths of the world, teaching us to have positive, can-do attitudes, and to chase our dreams with her full and unyielding support. She focused on being prepared, both physically and mentally, and seemed to always be ready to face any new challenge that would come her way. It is very hard for us to say goodbye, but she will remain with us all, helping to guide us and protect us.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Elaine, her twin sister Sharon, and one dear grandchild. She leaves behind her older sister Bonnie, her loving husband Frank, her wonderful children Adam (Heather), Joe (Jodi), and Becky (James), and eight adorable grandchildren.

From spooky stories to french braiding my hair in front of the tv, I couldn't have asked for a more caring grandmother. The world is just not the same without you. I miss your hugs. I love you grandma❤️
