Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Shirley Jean Davis Rydalch, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born February 15, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Eugene Gus Davis and Clarine Lillian Ray. She was the oldest of three children. She was a member of the Cyprus High School Pep Club. This is where she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Daniel Darrell Rydalch. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple. The had three children together, later divorced.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in many church callings. She served as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple and as a Stake Missionary for the Magna Utah East Stake. She loved the Lord with all her heart. Mom was a great example to her family and too all who knew her of Christ like love. One of her most favorite callings was being a Sunday School teacher to the older youth. She loved them and they loved her. As the youth of her class would go out on their missions, she would write to each one of them, faithfully every week, sending her love, support, and gratitude for their willingness to serve the Lord. She loved writing to her missionaries in the ward and to her grandsons and great grandson as they served. Mom loved to sing and was in a coral group for several years.
Jean worked at Varian Medical Systems as a receptionist for 46 years. She loved her job, and her co-workers. When a child would call to speak to their mom or dad, she knew who the child was just by the sound of their voice, call them by name and get them to their parent. Mom was a people person and she enjoyed greeting everyone that came into the lobby. She was loved by all.
She enjoyed going around doing temple work in all the temples in Utah and the neighboring states after she retired.
Our mom would show her love with words. Every member of her family has a birthday card or a Christmas card that has a novel written inside each one. They carry her words of love, hope and her love of the Savior, which will now be great treasures for her posterity.
Jean is survived by her children, Debi (Randy) Lusty, Spring City, UT, Dan (Debbie) Rydalch, West Valley City, UT, and Shelly (Reed) Campbell, Magna, UT. Her sister Lynn Kalmar and sister-in-law, Joyce Davis. 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren with a great-great granddaughter due in May. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Raymond Davis, and her grandson Codie Rydalch.
