Shirley Margie Carney passed away peacefully in her apartment at Chancellor Gardens at Clearfield, Utah on the morning of October 5, 2021. She was born October 7, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Sigrid Ingeborg Blomstrom Gomoll and Ernest Bernhardt Gomoll. Upon graduating from East High School in 1955, she was employed in the Accounting Department of US West Communications where she worked until she retired in August of 1989.

Shirley enjoyed fishing in her youth with her parents, and became a master at crocheting and knitting afghans, sweaters, sox and hats. She enjoyed seeing how happy people were when they received a gift she had handmade. Her greatest joy was collecting and sharing dolls. She loved seeing the happy face of a child when she would give them one of her dolls. She also shared an interest in trains; enjoyed traveling; loved shopping and eating out. She was always appreciative of any time we could spend to visit or help her, saying “whenever you can". She was a sweet and gentle soul with the cutest sense of humor that would make your day. She was a gift to us, and will be remembered for how much she touched our lives.

Shirley is survived by her Sisters Kay Nipper and Susan Martin, her beloved nieces Sandi Satterthwaite, Rochelle Bohn, Sherry Bailey and Corrie Martin, a nephew Dale Nipper, and also by a special cousin Ingrid Hallen Smith, who she thought of as a sister. She is preceded in death by her Mother, Father, a sister, Leona Sigrid Gomoll Gallenson, and her husband, Earl Joseph “Art” Carney.

The family would like to thank the Chancellor Gardens at Clearfield for their loving care during the time Shirley was with them, especially Emily and Melissa from Symbii Home Health and Hospice and their colleagues for all their expert care, support and love.

Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road (1700 West) at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the University of Utah Center for Alzheimer’s Care, 650 Komas Drive #106-A, Salt Lake City UT 84108 in memory of Shirley M. Carney.
