Shirley Ann Weech Broadbent

Jul 17, 1964 – Sep 27, 2026

St. George, Utah

Shirley Ann Weech Broadbent, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 27th, 2026. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Merrill Jensen Weech and Helen Brockbank Weech. She married William Ellsworth Broadbent on July 17th, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University in 1968.

Shirley, also known as Sunny because her mother said she was born smiling, was a beloved mom, sister, grandma, and great-grandma. She loved to read, listen to classical music, travel, and most of all spend time with her family. She was always up for an adventure. Some of her many adventures included: taking the Trans-Siberian Railway across China, Mongolia, and Russia with a good friend; ziplining and parasailing with one daughter; going on an Amazon river trip with another; geocaching with her son; and river rafting with her brother. She visited her grandchildren all over the world and even let her 14-year-old granddaughter plan a trip to Mexico for just the two of them not long after Shirley had undergone a double knee replacement.

When she wasn’t traveling, she loved being at home where she welcomed many people for extended stays. She also loved spending time every summer at the cabin her grandfather built in Wildwood (Provo Canyon). This past summer, just after her cancer diagnosis, it was especially wonderful to spend time with most all of her family in this special place. She was a kind, loving, calm, generous, and non-judgemental figure in our lives. We all looked up to her and aspire to be more like her.

She is survived by her children Jennifer (Mark) Milligan, Rebecca (Scott) Adair, and Jonathan (Nina) Broadbent; her grandchildren Sunny Milligan, Charlie Milligan, Jessica (Nic) Svob, Taylor Adair, Cassidy Adair, Austin (Brittany) Broadbent, Coreena Stanley, Elizabeth Broadbent; 9 great grandchildren; and her brother Merrill Brockbank Weech. She is preceded in death by her daughter Stephanie Broadbent, her husband, William Broadbent, and her brother Robert Weech.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 9th, 2026. A viewing will be held from 12:30-1:15 PM. The funeral service will start at 1:30 PM at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St. St. George, Utah, (435) 673-2454. Interment will take place in the St. George City Cemetery.
