Scott Eric Alden

Jan 12, 1967 Apr 22, 2024

Scott Eric Alden was born on January 12, 1967 in Van Nuys, California to Paul and Sharon Alden. He grew up in Littleton, Colorado near the slopes of the Rocky Mountains where he fell in love with skiing and snowboarding—a passion which would fill his life with great joy and friendships.

After graduating from Littleton High School, Scott served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Louisiana and Mississippi. He attended both Ricks College and the University of Utah and ultimately earned his degree in Marketing.

As a young adult, Scott married Lisa Lewin; they later divorced. Their union brought six incredible children into the world, and he loved each of them immensely. Scott later met his sweet and supportive companion, Deborah Funk, and they married in September 2010.

Throughout his life, Scott found happiness, joy, and friendship on mountain slopes. He was first interested in skiing as a youth until his brother introduced him to snowboarding in the 80s. Scott was a passionate competitor, always driven by a love for speed and fresh powder, but he also cherished making new friends in the sport he loved and serving them whenever needed by helping them make any necessary repairs to their gear. In 2013 at age 46, Scott won First Place Overall in the USASA National Championships for his age group. More recently, during his battle with cancer, he still found energy to indulge in the sport he loved so much, spending 70 days on the slopes in the 22-23 season and 43 days on the slopes in the 23-24 season.

Scott passed away swiftly from complications of a six-year battle with cancer on April 22, 2024. He is survived by many who will miss him dearly, including his parents Paul and Sharon Alden; siblings Mary (Jim) Moore, Carole (Doug) Anderson, David Alden, Rick Alden, and Clare Chadwick; wife, Debbie Funk Alden; children Trevor (Sadie) Alden, Jason (Mica) Alden, Karter Alden, Miles (Ariana) Alden, Annalise Alden, and Loralyn Alden; and grandchildren Brenner, Hazel, and Jensen.

In life, Scott continuously looked for opportunities to serve others in simple day-to-day tasks such as fixing sprinklers or shoveling driveways. Preceding his death, in that same spirit of compassionate giving, Scott chose to donate his body to science for the benefit of others.

A Memorial to honor Scott's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Rose Canyon Cove Building, 6869 W Vista Springs Dr., Herriman, UT. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:30 PM, a joyous event to remember Scott's vibrant spirit, at 6894 W New Maple Dr., Herriman, UT.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the Huntsman Cancer Institute or consider participating in the University of Utah Body Donor Program (both links below).
