Ronald Gary Spears

Jul 28, 1953 Mar 22, 2023

The world has lost one of its greatest entertainers. Singer, Songwriter, Superhero, Musician, Recording Artist, Bandmate, Ventriloquist, Comedian, Yo-Yo Champion, Handyman, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Brother, and Friend, Ronald Gary Spears passed away on March 22, 2023, while surrounded by his wife Brenda of 50 years, daughters and sons-in-law. He was the REAL Captain America!!! However, after more than a two-year battle, he was defeated by Cancer, the ultimate super villain.

Ron was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 28, 1953, to George Howard and Margaret Denos Spears. From a young age, Ron found his love for Marvel and DC comics, yo-yos and ventriloquism. He also found his love for music. Being an extremely gifted musician, he taught himself how to play numerous string instruments and could perform in multiple genres. His ultimate love was Bluegrass.

Ron attended West High School where he participated in choir and drama but excelled at entertaining the student body as Head Cheerleader. During his senior year, he met the love of his life and sparring partner, Brenda. The two were married in 1973 and had four daughters together, which he proudly proclaimed to be his greatest accomplishments.

After years of performing all over the world, working and raising his family in Utah, Ron decided it was time to take his music career to the next level. So, in 2006, Ron and Brenda moved to Nashville, Tennessee to live the dream.

Well, that dream became a reality. You can now turn on your local bluegrass station to hear a song he wrote or to hear him sing Jenny Lynn, Blue and Lonesome Again, Mama’s Tattered Bible…and the list goes on and on.

Ron was truly special. He was one of the funniest, friendliest, entertainers you could ever meet. He is up in Heaven right now turning everyone into a Ron Spears Fan!

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Survived by his wife, Brenda and daughters, Christy (Ryan), Bobbi (Dave), Jaclyn (Randy), and Keri. His six grandsons, five granddaughters, three great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

The Spears Family would like to extend a special thanks to all the medical and home healthcare teams from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, Ron’s loved ones invite you to turn on your local Bluegrass station and donate to a charity of your choice.

Dad, here is to living the “Fast Track” continue full speed ahead.

Services will be held at the Hale Centre Theatre, 9900 Monroe St, Sandy, Utah on April 14, 2023 at 12:00 noon. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Nashville, Tennessee. Date: TBD.
