Robert Wayne Landis “Uncle Bob”, age 69, of Hurricane, Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 27, 2023, due to complications of diabetes.

Bob was born in Chambersburg Pennsylvania on May 12, 1954. Beloved son of Charles Guy Landis and Kathryn Pauline Barge.

Bob spent his youth in the Gettysburg/Chambersburg area where he attended and graduated from Biglerville High School in 1972. He then raised and showed beagles. He was a member of the Chess club and enjoyed bowling. We have always been in awe of his left-handed curveball. Bob remained in contact with many of his classmates through the years.

Bob joined the military and was a true American. He served his country proudly as a US Marine. He told many stories about his service throughout the years.

Bob worked as a long-haul trucker for many years. He proudly served as a police officer for Hurricane City and enjoyed serving his community. He retired from his job as a security officer at the Casa Blanca in Mesquite. He then moved to Hurricane where he currently resided with his beloved dogs Oakie and Keno. They were his babies and very spoiled.

Bob was a lifelong Steelers football fan and proud of it. He wore his jersey and hat every game day and displayed his team memorabilia in his home.

Bob graduated with an Associate of Science degree from Dixie college during the time he served as a police officer. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and was instrumental in starting a club at Hurricane High school. He was a member of the NHPA (National Horseshoe Pitching Association) and pitched horseshoes in the summer and senior games.

Bob was a devoted member of the fraternal order of Eagles, the American Legion, the NRA, and the American National fishing association. He also served on the Hurricane City Fire department.

Bob was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting trapping, and participating in the mountain man rendezvous. (In his authentic mountain man gear.) He coached several of his nephews in little league football.

Bob was very competitive in any sport or game he played. Including darts, billiards, croquet, poker, and board games. He enjoyed brewing his own beer and baking. He made cream puffs every Christmas and generously shared them with everyone.

Bob was addicted to shopping online and we never knew what would show up at his door. He couldn’t pass it up if it was a “good deal” or he thought someone else would like it. He reveled in giving to others and showing off his treasures.

Bob could tell some stories about his life. He repeated them often. He adored his nieces and nephews and bragged about their accomplishments. He treated them like his own and loved them dearly. That love was reciprocated by all of them.

Bob fought diabetes and numerous illnesses for many years. Bob had a special bond with his brother Ken. He looked up to him and they shared many good times and made memories together to last a lifetime.

Bob was a gentle soul, a simple man who was a devoted brother and uncle, and a good friend to everyone. He will be sorely missed but forever in our hearts.

Bob is survived by his brother Ken Landis (Marsha Landis) of Hurricane Utah, nieces, Tobey Landis, and Trissy Owen, nephews, Keith Landis, Decker Landis, and Dace Landis, and their children whom he cherished and appreciated for their help. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Landis, and Kathryn Landis, and his nephews, Dade Landis and Kayden Landis.

A graveside memorial will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Family and close friends are welcome to pay their respects there.

Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary 110 S. Bluff Street, Saint George Utah.

Friends and family are invited to sign Bob’s online guest book at www.spilsburymortuary.com
