Richard Frank Gold (Dick) passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026 in Chesterfield, Missouri. Dick was an honest man with intelligent humor who lived with honor and dignity.
Dick is survived by his wife Marjory Comstock and Matthew (Christine), also a daughter, L, and five grandchildren. Also survived by his sister, Barbara (Gary) Lloyd, brother-in-law Mel Harker, and nieces and nephews in Utah and Idaho. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anne Harker.
Dick was born September 14, 1941 in Seattle, WA to Frank and Elsie Watson Gold. His first two years of life, it was just Dickie and his mom while his dad served in the Army Aircorp in the Pacific during WWII.
He attended Finch Elementary School in Spokane, WA, Clayton Junior High in Salt Lake and was in the first graduating class of Highland High School. He was the captain of the golf team there and led them to the championship, with his best buddies, Larry, Boyd and Cornham. These were some of his golf & poker buddies for life. He was an excellent golfer and it was a lifelong sport for him and Marj.
Many summers when he was a teenager, the family would vacation at a dude ranch in Sun Valley, ID. His favorite things to do were riding horses and fishing. He liked going to the Lagoon Amusement Park.
He attended Trinity College in Hartford, CT on an academic scholarship. At Trinity College he was the night DJ for the college radio station. His sign-in song was “Stardust.” During summers he would work as a lab tech at Thiokol Labs in Brigham City, UT. When he would come into town, he always wanted apple pie. He would say, “I tell all my friends nobody makes an apple pie like my mom.”
He later went to Purdue University, where he earned his doctorate degree in inorganic chemistry. The family was very proud and called him “Doctor Dickey.” While at Purdue, he met Marj and they married in December of 1981.
Dick and Marj lived in Connecticut, Nebraska, Illinois, Ohio, and settled in Chesterfield, MO. They enjoyed traveling together and going to horse races like the Kentucky Derby. They had a passion for golden retrievers and raised many through the years. Dick and Marj had some heartbreaking times, but together they are a winning team!
