Richard Louise Flanders

Richard Louis Flanders, age 85, died on February 15, 2022, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on September 11, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mabel Sarah Florence Flanders. His dad was Arlie Edward Flanders.

He married Janice Garside Flanders on January 13, 1956. He worked as an Operating Engineer. He and mom desired and attempted to travel every road in the country. They loved playing cards with family and friends, who "worked hard to let mom win." He loved to watch the stars, identify the constellations and teach astronomy to those he loved. He loved to watch the clouds roll by and teach the names of those clouds to others. He won a football scholarship to the U of U and attended for about two years. He coached and taught football and baseball. He enjoyed watching sports on television, and we were certain that he yelled loud enough at the referees they could hear him. Most of all, he loved his family.

He is survived by his children: Brenda Flanders Sprunt (Dirk), Edward Flanders (Gina); daughter-in-law: Audree Flanders (Martin); his grandchildren: Mason Sprunt (Maya), Torie Flanders, Britney Flanders, Dallas Flanders, Rick Flanders, Jennifer Weeks (Tyler), Shelby Richards (Jordan), Brandon Flanders (Ashley), Gabriale Flanders; sister: Linda Martindale.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life: Jan Flanders; son: Richard Flanders; daughter: Jana Flanders; granddaughter: Dominque Flanders.

Funeral Service will be held on February 26, 2022, at 11:30. Lunch will be served at 12:30, at Murray Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah. Interment will be at Murray Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street, following the lunch.
