Richard Chadwick Wood, “Dick Wood,” age 95, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2022. Richard was born in Salt Lake City, UT on October 21, 1927 to George and Leah Wood. He attended East High School and the University of Utah before serving in the US Army during WWII. Upon returning home from the service, Dick served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Canada Mission.

After his mission, Richard married Marilyn Parker on June 23, 1950. Dick and Marilyn (deceased in 1980) were the parents of six children. Richard worked in the family business, Fernwood Candy and Ice Cream Co. for over 70 years. He worked until 2016, when he sold the business at the age of 89.

Dick excelled in athletics. He especially loved tennis and golf, winning state tennis doubles at East High School and numerous golf championships throughout his life. He was a member of Willow Creek Country Club and the Salt Lake County Club for many years. Richard enjoyed his years of community service with the Sugarhouse Lions and Salt Lake Kiwanis club.

Dick served in numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. The calling he most enjoyed was minister to all his close friends at Spring Gardens.

Richard is survived by his six children; Karen Wood, Kristine and Duane Moss, Scott and Jodi Wood, Greg and Kathleen Wood, Todd and Andrea Wood, Connie and Greg Windley, 20 grandchildren, and 50 great grandchildren, Mary Ellen Hanks-sister, Jan and family, Lorraine and family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 12:00 pm, preceded by viewing/family greeting from 10:30-11:30 am at the Olympus Stake Center – 2675 E. 4420 So, Salt Lake City, UT 84124. Interment to follow at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
