Ramona O. Castillo, age 70, passed away February 20, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 7th, 1950 in Asuncion Paraguay to Manuel Oviedo and Elodia Martinez Oviedo.
Ramona Completed high school and graduated in culinary arts in Paraguay in her early 20’s. She then moved to Argentina as a nanny and house keeper. She gained her US citizenship and moved to New Orleans Louisiana in 1980 with the family that she was working for. Shortly after, she met John Vincent Castillo and Married him on November 27, 1981 at the Washington DC LDS Temple. In June of 1985 she gave birth to their first child, a daughter, Noelia Castillo. She then moved to New York and had her second child, a son, John James Castillo born in 1986. In the summer of 1998 moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Her husband passed away on 8/12/2001. She worked at the LDS Printing Division for 17 years. She has always lived with her children up until her death at home.
She loved cooking, gardening and adored animals and children. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her interests also included reading the scriptures and enjoying time with family. She loved listening to old classic Spanish songs and dancing.
She was a very loving, caring and compassionate person and a great example of Faith. She dedicated her life to her children and to serving others and was an inspiration. She was loved by everybody.
She is survived by her one daughter and one son, Noelia and John James Castillo both from Salt Lake City. She is also survived by two sisters, Selsa Oviedo Espinola, and Vilma Oviedo Aguiera, both are from Paraguay.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her mother, and her father. She is also preceded in death by her three brothers; Angel, Reynaldo and Carlos.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 at the Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road at 11:00 am. A viewing will be held that same day from 10:00 am – 10:45 am at the Mortuary. Interment, Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
