Phyllis was born on June 26th, 1936 to Philip Spencer Hindman and Mary Louise Kehl Hindman in Grand Junction, Colorado. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah with her family in 1943 during World War II, and graduated from Granite High School in 1954. She then attended the University of Utah and pursued a degree in Education. While in college, she was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and then shortly thereafter met the love of her life, Donald Joseph Johnson, Jr. whom she married in 1957.

Phyllis relocated to Las Vegas with her husband Don and began raising their family. This was during the “Rat Pack” era of Las Vegas. As a lover of many different musicians and entertainers, she always spoke fondly of her experiences there in Las Vegas, seeing many different performers at the top of their careers. She and Don later relocated to Cottonwood Heights, Utah, where they spent the majority of their years together raising their children and focusing on their careers.

Phyllis’s kind and loving nature, sweet laugh and beautiful smile made a long lasting impact on her community where she made lifelong friends along the way. She actively participated in the PTA, worked briefly at Butler Middle School, and eventually spent most of her career working alongside her husband at Hidden Valley Country Club in an accounting/office administrator role.

Phyllis had many hobbies and interests, loved to knit and crochet, and created many beautiful pieces of handwork. She was also an avid reader of many different genres.

Phyllis was a lover of dogs. She always spoke fondly of her Dachshund “Gretchen” from her early years, and held a very special bond with her sweet little Shih-Tzu companion, “Buddy”.

She exemplified all that is good in this world, and she will be remembered for the kindness and love she shared with her family and friends.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Katherine, and her sons Timothy and Michael, as well as her daughters-in-law Karen Kennedy-Johnson, Michelle Baird-Johnson, and Marcella Many children-Johnson. She’s also survived by her grandchildren Jessica, David, Chase, Hayley, Miles and Parker, as well as her great grandchildren Crue, Rex and Grace, and also by her sister Joan Christensen.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her father and mother, Philip and Louise Hindman, her husband Donald J. Johnson, Jr, and her son Daniel Phillip Johnson.
