Norma O’Sullivan Chaffos age 93, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2023. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Stella Rhodes and Charles T. O’ Sullivan. Graduated from South High School. Married Nick C. Chaffos in 1952, which they had four loving children. Survived by her children Christine Dunn, Steven, Patrick (Susana Silva); daughter-in-law Kelly; sisters Patricia Hall and Pam Gardner; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by Stella (mother), Charles (father), Mike (son), Charles Jr. (brother), and the love of her life Nick (husband).
She loved the world of fashion, as a teacher at the School of Culture, which was a young lady finishing school. There she taught classes in etiquette, fashion, speech, figure contouring, modeling, cosmetology, balance and coordination, art, literature, fencing, French, etc. She worked at the modeling agency called Model’s Guild, worked with advertisers, fashion editors, photographers, motion picture companies, newspaper companies and television stations. She planned fundraisers and fashion shows for local clubs and organizations. She also was a stunning model herself.
One of her greatest passions was in politics and was a volunteer for many years. Some of the positions she held were State Vice Chairman of the Young Republicans; Legislative Chairman of Districts 14 and 15; Legislative Vice Chair of District 7 and 13. She was a proud member of the County and State Central Committees, Platform and Election Committees, Utah Federation of Republican Women’s, Republican Forum Study Committee. As part of her duties as Secretary of the Commissioner Office, she attended many conferences in Washington D.C and Nebraska. Which included women’s conferences, Regional Federation conferences, and she also attended the 1960 National Republican Convention. Big accomplishment that she was the State co-chair for “Pat for First Lady” Pat Nixon committee. One of her favorite memories was meeting Presidents Nixon, Ford and Reagan. She enjoyed her 10 years working for the City and County government.
She also served as a coordinator at the International Women's Conference and the International Chiefs Conference. She loved to support Young Peoples Pioneer Theatre. She was a counselor for Adult Education in the National PTA. Co-produced the original Sound and Light show on the Green River (Canyons Lands by Night). Later in her career she became a successful Real Estate Agent.
She loved music, arts, travel, shopping and sharing her stories!
