Nord Halls was born on February 9, 1942, and passed away on March 14, 2023, at 81 years of age, after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. Nord was born in Smoot, Wyoming to Dale and Della Halls. He was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Star Valley High School. After his graduation, Nord worked in construction in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. In 1962, he attended the University of Wyoming and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand from 1963-1965. He met the love of his life, Sally, at a church activity and they were married in the Logan Temple for time and all eternity on September 28, 1967.

Nord was hired by the Salt Lake City Police Department in 1967, left from 1968 to 1971 to work on the Reeves Ranch in Star Valley, and then returned to the police department in 1971. He and Sally raised their family in West Jordan, Utah, where they have stayed and made their home. Nord retired in 1996 after 26 years of service on the force. Nord and Sally have enjoyed 56 years of marriage raising their “Magnificent Seven” and enjoying the posterity that has followed.

Nord was very active in his church and held many callings. He enjoyed serving and sharing his knowledge of the gospel with others. His favorite callings were Gospel Doctrine teacher and serving on the High Council. Nord loved to read, study, and learn new things. He had an uncanny ability to recite and reference things he knew.

Nord loved Sally and his children. He wanted his family to have a solid foundation in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Nord was extremely grateful for Sally’s dedicated service to him these last few years as Parkinson’s disease made it difficult from him to do all the things that he loved. Nord lived a good life and said that Parkinson’s was just his “lot in life.”

Nord is survived by his wife, Sally, and his seven children, Lorrie (Tim), Jerry (Heidi), Diana (Ed), Jared (Jen), Adam (Lori), David, and Natalie (Chris), 24 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Beverly Schaedla. He is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Allart, his parents, Dale and Della Halls, and his four brothers, Dee, Verl, Keith, and Lynn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Westland 3rd Ward located at 7265 South 2700 West in West Jordan, Utah. Nord will be buried at Memorial Estates on 6500 South Redwood Road following the service.
