Neal Alan Custer passed away at his home on March 13, 2022, after a long battle with a rare and progressive brain disorder. He was born February 5, 1953, in Cambridge, Nebraska, to LaVeta Ardene Waln and Donald Harry Custer. On February 14, 1981, he married Marilyn Robison. They recently celebrated 41 years together.
Neal joined the Navy at a young age and served a four-year enlistment culminating in the war-ending evacuation of South Vietnam. On his return home, he joined the Utah National Guard and completed multiple enlistments. He was proud of his military service.
Neal enjoyed his work in drug research at various agencies including the University of Utah. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was good with his hands and made handy items for their home and was good at fixing things.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. He is survived by his wife Marilyn and their son Jeff, both of South Salt Lake City.
Funeral Service will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery at 6500 South Redwood Road in West Jordan on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Friends may also visit on Sunday evening at the mortuary from 6-8:00 p.m. Interment will follow the services on Monday at the same location.
