Our loving mother and grandmother Myra Juanita Lounsbury Brodale, 89, of Murray, Utah passed away Tuesday, 17 February 2026 in her daughter’s home in Sugar City, Idaho of natural causes. She was born 24 November 1936 in Wilton, Connecticut to Everett Wesley and Ruth Mary Williams Lounsbury.
Myra was the fourth child and eldest daughter of 13 children who affectionately called her Sissy. She lived the first years of her life in New Milford, Connecticut. She had an angelic voice and started singing in choirs with her brothers at age 6. During her high school years she lived in Redding, Connecticut. She was known in high school as “Redding’s brown-headed bombshell,” “The devil in her eyes,” and “Party lover.” She graduated from Danbury High School in 1954. She attended BYU.
Myra had a unique gift for mothering. She happily brought eight children into the world. Each baby was a welcome and joyous addition to the family and was celebrated and loved deeply by all. Raising her children was her greatest joy. She raised her family primarily in Murray and West Jordan, Utah.
Myra supported her children as a single parent. She had a lot of energy and was very productive. After many years of doing odd jobs such as sewing restaurant grill pads, selling food storage, and babysitting in her home so she could stay home with her children, she opened the Nanny Daycare. She loved children and was a gifted nurturer; she was a much-loved caregiver and successful business owner.
Myra loved many things. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings. Church was her favorite place to be. She loved the Savior and looked forward to being with Him again. She loved to sing and had a beautiful soprano voice and regularly participated in the ward choir. She loved her children's friends. They knew her as the cool, fun-loving mom. She loved animals. This likely began during her childhood when she was raised on a dairy farm with various animals and pets. She loved to dance and rarely missed a Saturday night Church singles dance. Later in life, she loved the senior center where she associated with “other gray-haired people.”
Myra was loved by all who knew her. She was quick to smile, warm, friendly, and non-judgmental. She held a special place in her heart for the homeless and for the LGBTQ community.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Marie Krzeminski, Bonnie Nielsen, Chester Lounsbury, Butch (Everett Wesley, Jr.) Lounsbury, Mickey (David Michael) Lounsbury, and Donald Lounsbury Sr.; a grandson; and most recently her youngest son Nathan Paul Brodale, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Anderson Haertel.
