On July 11, 2025, Luther Randall “Randy” Harkey, 70, of Weddington, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord. Randy, also called “Luke,” was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 11, 1955 to the late Luther Orr Harkey and Mary Reid Morris Harkey.

July 27, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist 2518 Lancaster Highway, Monroe, NC 28112.

Randy went to school at Weddington Elementary School, Wesley Chapel Elementary School, and Sun Valley High School. After he married Trish, they moved to Utah in the 1980s. He began working as a supervisor for Salt Lake City Housing Authority. Randy loved living in Salt Lake City. He made many friends and was always doing something to help his neighbors.

Randy was a big Nascar racing fan. He watched races on TV and drove his motorhome to many races. He loved traveling in his motorhome and fishing with friends, especially at Lake Powell, Utah, and Flagler Beach, Florida. Most important to him, though, was being with his family.

In September 2023, he drove his motorhome back to Weddington to see his family and reunite with his high school first love, “the love of his life, Debbie.” Little did we all know that he would be driving back to Utah with Debbie and by July 20, 2024 they would be married. He did not want to spend a minute of his time without her. Randy got a bonus when he married Debbie - a wonderful new family that blended great with his own. He was proud to be Mom’s #1 and she was proud to be his #1. He never thought he wanted children, but boy that changed. Debbie’s family quickly became part of his own, especially “Little Bit” and “KK.” They stole Papa’s heart!

An informal Celebration of Life will be held on An informal Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 27, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall,

2518 Lancaster Highway, Monroe, NC 28112.

Randy will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will live forever in our hearts!
