Minta Jean Brandon, the matriarch of our family, returned home to her Father in Heaven while surrounded by her loving husband and children at the age of 76 on October 7, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on June 11, 1946, in St. Ignatius, Montana to Lynn Clay Priest and Ivy Sonberg Priest. After a whirlwind courtship, our mom married the love of her life Robert Edward Brandon, on February 24, 1966.
She lived a life of service to God and her family. Although her marriage produced five children, she reared many others who refer to her as mom.
Through Minta's professional life, she worked as a Geriatric Nurse through various nursing homes, and proudly served in the Capitol Hill Community Counsel for over 25 years.
She faithfully served for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the Compassionate Service Leader for over 25 years. Later in life, she served a Senior Mission with her dedicated husband in the employment services department. She made many friends and fulfilled her desire to serve the Lord.
Mom was a lady and a fighter, in every sense of both words. Her dedication as a Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma are unparalleled. She loved with all that was in her; for her it was the only way. She simply could never witness another in need and not help. This includes animals too. Her dog, Sniper, sorely misses her perhaps as much as her family does.
The lessons we learned from her will resonate through many generations in our family and her community; we have been blessed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Edward Brandon, her children: Debbie K. (Bobby) Eames, Shawn Brandon, Chris (Heather Marie) Brandon, Pansy D. (Jeremiah) Winterburn, Angela D. (Patrick) Cavanaugh, 15 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lynn C. and Ivy Priest, her mother and father in law, Carl and Birdie Hayford, her brothers: Robert Priest, Kyle Priest, Harold Priest, her sister Karen Sonberg, brother in law, Howard Taylor Brandon, nephew Bobby Priest, niece Kim Jorgensen, and two grandchildren: Devin McDougall, and Randy Randford.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at Capitol Hill Ward House, 413 North West Capitol Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103.
