Michael Joseph Burke

Feb 22, 1959 Dec 30, 2023

MICHAEL JOSEPH BURKE, 64, of Salt Lake City, Utah has left us. Michael died peacefully in his sleep while taking an afternoon nap on Saturday, December 30, 2023.

Our, “Mike,” was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 22, 1959. He spent his formative years in the western suburbs of Woodridge and Downers Grove where he attended Downers Grove South High School. He continued his education, receiving an Associates degree from the College of DuPage and a Business degree from Northwestern University while making many friends along the way who lasted a lifetime.

Mike worked for UPS for many years in several positions, ultimately landing in the Human Resources department. He had two dogs that he loved dearly, Boomer & Max who undoubtedly have been waiting patiently for him in heaven.

Mike was the fun brother, the one who could stay positive, the one who could make Mom laugh when it was best to do exactly that. He was the most athletic & mischievous child in the family, resulting in his fair share of memorable family stories of the, “Ooopsy,” variety, as well as the simple, fond memories. Songs of his exploits will be sung for many years to come.

At an early adult age, Mike was struck with Multiple Sclerosis that relentlessly would not plateau, making his life increasingly difficult in the most unfair of ways. Ultimately, Mike resided in a nursing home where he built a life within, becoming a beloved individual and making friends with both staff and residents. He became an influence in the lives of others, someone who was loved to the point of tears by many of those same people when God called him home. Michael, under the most extraordinary conditions, made a difference.

Michael was preceded in death by his Mother, Dolores Marie Burke and Nephew Sean David Burke. He is survived by his Father, Myles Roy Burke, and siblings Sharon Renee Tooley, Claudia Jean Blaz, Thomas James Burke, Carolyn Anne Burke, David Myles Burke, and James Jennings Burke and many nieces & nephews.
