Melevi Vao Tu’akoi, kind-hearted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in West Valley City, Utah in the presence of her family on April 13, 2021. She was born to Viliami Makamaile Tu’akoi and Lisia Vea on June 27, 1952 in the beautiful town of Tokomololo in the friendly islands of Tonga. She was a single mother for most of her adult life. She was formerly married to Elikena Kamoto. Melevi is preceded in death by her parents, Viliami and Lisia, her sister Oto’ota (Suliasi Finau), and her brother Manase (Polu). She is survived by her beloved son Tevita Kamoto daughter in law Oliana Kamoto her three precious grandchildren Adia, Yeshua & Elikena LeBron Kamoto her sister Melesisi (the late Viliami Hopoate), brother Sione (Latu), sister Meliame (Koni Manu), sister Lesieli Fine (Clarence Uyema ), sister Papasila (Kavakehe Makanesi) and many nieces and nephews. Melevi loved to learn; she was a graduate of Liahona High School and studied at BYU-Hawaii. She worked for many years at the O.C. Tanner Company. She developed a talent in crochet. She was known as a happy person, and she had an infectious smile. When life presented its challenges, she smiled her way through adversity. She loved to talk stories and play cards. She was resourceful and worked hard to provide for herself and Tevita. Her utmost desire was to let the Lord prevail in the details of her life. She developed a testimony of Jesus Christ and exemplified love and reverence for Him as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Although she did not drive, thanks to countless family, friends, and ward members; she was always grateful for a ride to church meetings, temple service, ward and family socials. She was a person of service and lived the parable of the widow’s mite. She lived a simple life, but she gave her best to others in the form of service, time, friendship, and love. Some of the highlights of her motherhood was witnessing her son Tevita complete a full time mission, marry and become an honorable, hardworking father and patriarch of his family. As the sun set on her mortal journey, she was tenderly cared for by Oliana, Tevita and her grandchildren. Melevi Tu’akoi leaves a legacy of goodness that we can follow. Rest in love our sweet Melevi Vao Tu’akoi. Ofa Lahi Atu.
