It was Sunday, December 1st, 2019 when God left his earthly home to watch over all his people from his thrown above..............
Well that is how Mel would tell the story. He always answered his phone with "God Speaking". Well I suppose he knows now that we were right he wasn't God. Mel was God like in many ways during his short time here on earth. Mel was a good man with a heart of gold. Sure, he had to keep that macho man image, so calling him Honey in a parking lot generally got a dirty look and "shush". However, when nobody was looking he he could be found playing Barbie and baby dolls. He gave the best bear hugs and only occasionally broke a rib or two. Mel slept with one eye open, it was creepy at first, but when both eyes were closed, he really was "just resting his eyes".
Mel never had children of his own however, he was a father to many. He did this in many ways. He was a teacher and confidant. Three girls in particular needed a father figure in their lives and being the kind, loving teddy bear he was he stepped up and gave those girls that father figure. In the year 2000 he stepped up again when he added Mathew to our family, to once again to be the dad he didn't have to be.
It was around 2004 Mel decided to relocate to Tucson Arizona where he flourished and bonded with Mathew. Mel lived a good life. He was as hard working as any man could be. He loved Motorcycles as much as riding. He went on road trips on his bike with friends and family.
Mel loved his family and did much to maintain the bond despite the distance. He is loved by so many and endeared into so many lives that he impacted. Today your family and friends gather to celebrate your life, your humor, your hatefulness and all that you are/were to so many, your brothers, your sisters, nieces and nephews as well as friends. You leave us better people for knowing you and being blessed to have had you in our lives. Don't worry we won't let it out that under all that hairy macho is a good man that lived life on his terms and even shed a few tears. So today we will share those jokes and stories of the wonderful life you lived. We will laugh and celebrate your life, maybe a few tears.
Thanks for the casual games of golf.
Uncle Honey,
Thank you for teaching me....about tools, how to box, what good greasy food was, how to play pool, how to fix my car and change a tire (even if you usually did it for me anyway). Thanks for never missing my birthday. Most of all thanks for loving me so much. I hope I made you proud. I'll miss you forever. Love Mona

We are saddened by Mel's sudden passing. He was a funny and kind man who will be greatly missed by those he cherished.
Much love for this family. Mel's warm and loving heart will always be part of us.
We loved Mel dearly. We cherished his friendship. His infectious laughter and his lighthearted teasing will be missed. His joking demeanor always left us with a happy heart. His bear hugs made us laugh, that is after you could breathe again. Mark considered Mel his one and only true friend. Mel will be missed, but he left us with so many fond memories. We will always think of him and smile for he is etched in our hearts forever. To Mel's family our prayers will always be with you.
Mel, you were the best, and still are! Always funny and making people smile. What an amazing person with a heart of gold, you will be missed here but I am sure many were there so excited to welcome you home to your heavenly place, I know your happy and around all your loved ones, until we meet again we love you dearly and will miss you.
LOVE,
Kristie Smith and family..
