Mazelle Bernice Buck

Feb 15, 1926 Jan 1, 2023

Mazelle Bernice Rollins Buck, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother, and Friend, peacefully passed away at the turn of the New Year just weeks before turning ninety-seven. She was enveloped in the love and respect of all those who knew her. Mazelle, “Mazie” to her friends, was born February 15, 1926, in Cumberland, Wyoming, outside Lyman, to James and Merlin Rollins. After her father’s early death, Mazie, her two sisters and a brother lived with their mother in Kemmerer and Lyman, before eventually settling in Evanston. She graduated from Evanston High School in 1944 and, thereafter, started nursing school at the University of Utah.

When WWII ended, she returned to Evanston, where she married William O. (“Bill”) Buck in December of 1945. Because of Bill’s work, they moved a total of seven times, having five children along the way, ultimately settling in Salt Lake after retirement. Her ability to create and maintain a loving family home with each move was one of her greatest strengths. Bill passed away in 2009.

Mazelle is survived by her children: Richard (Carolyn) Buck, Janice (Marc) Beasley, Shari Murray, William (Leslie) Buck, and Randall (Rob French) Buck; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and by her older sister, Lois Merle Rollins of Salt Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her younger sister and brother, Ruth Rollins Spencer and James Rollins, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment and a celebration of her life will be held in Evanston, Wyoming, in May. In lieu of flowers or donations, please give to the ones you love, let them know you love them, and make the most of every moment of every day.
