St. George, Utah. Maxine Edith Coates Hill (93) passed away on 09/07/2021. She was born on May 4, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Max Fred Coates and Lena Brewer Coates. She married Evan Dee Olsen on 07/27/1945 in Ephraim, Utah. Evan subsequently died in a private airplane crash. Maxine married John C. Hill in 1968 and shared a wonderful life with him until his death in 2002.

Maxine was raised and educated in Mount Pleasant, Utah but she spent most of her life in the Salt Lake City area. She and John had a home in Emigration Canyon which they loved. She worked as an accountant for years. She also worked as a realtor and she owned and operated her own restaurant for a time. She also spent a good amount of time tying excellent fly fishing flys for Doc Olsen’s flys. After retirement Maxine and John moved to Mesquite, NV where they enjoyed the weather and Bingo. Maxine loved riding horses in her youth in Mt. Pleasant and especially loved jumping her horse over the gate at her home much to the consternation of her dad. In her later years her love turned to playing bingo in Mesquite. She and John enjoyed traveling, golf and their families. She especially enjoyed the trip to Europe her daughter Sue took her on.

She is survived by daughter Susan O. Cook and husband Bill of Centerville, Ut; son Val Olsen and wife Christine of LaVerkin, Ut; son Kim Olsen of Mt. Pleasant, Ut; grandchildren Stacey DeVore of West Bountiful, Ut; Holly Lambourne of West Jordan, Ut; Jeff Swensen of Farmington, Ut; Matt Swensen of Centerville, Ut; Adam Olsen of Bozeman, Mt; Aaron Olsen of San Diego, CA; Kacey Mefford of Mesa, AZ; Katie Osbourne, and Emily Toby; and brothers LaVar Coates of Las Vegas, NV and Jay Coates of Moab, Ut.

She was proceeded in death by husband John Hill; sisters Lucille Taylor, and Marion Blackett; daughter Kathy Olsen Bowman, and granddaughter Kimberly Swensen.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, 09/17/2021, at 2:00 pm at Memorial Estates Mountain View Cemetery located at 3115 E. Bengal Blvd. in Cottonwood Heights.

The family would like to express its thanks to Beehive Homes Assisted Living center at Coral Canyon in St. George for the care she received there during the last 3 ½ years proceeding her death.
