Matt Albert Thalman, our wonderful, much loved husband, father, grandfather and son returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father on February 27, 2021.

He was born August 3rd, 1955 in Richfield, Utah to Mack and Lael Thalman - the oldest of six children. He was raised on a farm in Vermillion, Utah where he learned the importance of hard work by his father’s side. He carried this work ethic throughout his life which blessed his family greatly.

He attended Richfield High School excelling in many sports. He was chosen to be on the Utah All State team in basketball and baseball.

After graduating, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in British Columbia, Canada. Following his mission, Matt attended Utah State University where he met his future wife, Cynthia Howell. They were married on April 8th, 1977 in the Manti, UT LDS temple. He graduated with a degree in accounting and accepted a job with Utah Power & Light. They moved to West Jordan where they started their family. They are blessed with four beautiful children: Brian (Melissa), Jennifer (Daniel) Cordner, David, and JaNae, and two grandchildren: Ava and Mack.

Matt loved sports and shared his passion with many. He coached Babe Ruth little league baseball for ten years and also Jr. Jazz basketball. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, two sons, and his friends. Our family gathered often to watch Jazz games, hockey, and baseball. He also made sure his family went on numerous fun vacations.

Matt worked for the power company for 30 years where he formed close friendships with his colleagues. He was a faithful member of the Church and was happy to serve whenever called upon.

Matt is survived by his wife, Cynthia, his four children, two grandchildren and mother, Lael. Also siblings Laurie (Rob) Brems, Cindy (Fred) Blackham, Lisa (Kim) Hillyard and Tony (Kristie) Thalman. Preceded in death by his father, Mack Thalman and brother, Bryce Thalman.

Family always came first in Matt's life and our family is close and united because of his example.

I got to know Matt coaching our boys TJ and Brian in baseball. What a great gentleman, nice guy and overall just a fantastic person which I enjoyed being around every moment. An amazing person has departed from this earth.

I'll miss you Matt. What a great guy, down to earth and honest. He was one of the first neighbors to befriend me. He and I would sit on the back row in sacrament meeting and scrutinize the deacons on how well they would do their job of passing the sacrament.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Matt. He was a great man and a wonderful neighbor! He always had a smile and a kind word to share. Our prayers are with your family at this time.

Selling coal to PC, I recall golf w/Matt. He never, ever lost his temper, was always gracious & while a gifted player, he wasn't impatient, always complemented & had kind words. In summary: Matt was a true gentleman, good friend & lived his beliefs!
