Our loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother passed away October 7, 2020 after a tough battle with cancer.

Matilda was born in La Petaca, New Mexico on June 18, 1938 to Rosana Martinez and Jose Benito Esquibel. Attended school at La Petaca Elem. NM. McCurdy Private School, Espanola NM. Graduated from Bingham High School, Utah. Married to Vicente Griego in 1958, then later married Bill Hanley in 1972.

Survived by her siblings Pete Gallegos, Bernice Chavez, and Leopoldo Esquibel of California. Her children Vince Griego, Steve Griego, Gina Jacobsen (Richard), and Nathan Hanley. Grandchildren Sherri Griego, Christina Griego, Cory Jacobsen, and Elijah Hanley. Great-grandchildren Ilias Metcalf and Jesse Griego. Also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends who she loved dearly.

Matilda was a loving, amazing woman with great strength and a big heart. She loved to have her family around her. She enjoyed reading, traveling, watching the news, and sitting outside on her patio, listening to the wind blow through the leaves.

She worked for Detroit Diesel, Fedco, and BD Medical and has been retired for about 10 years. Not one to sit still, she continued to work for Aging Services where she loved and cared for many clients. Taking them grocery shopping, cooking with them, and visiting.

She is proceeded in death by Siblings Martina Gallegos, Corina Jaramillo, Roman Gallegos, and Joe Esquibel as well as granddaughters Angela Griego, Jennifer Jacobsen, and her dog Whizzle.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Institute, as well as Richard Jacobsen, Carol Jaramillo, and Eileen Glass. We are so grateful for their help caring for our mother.
