Martin Howard Heimlich

Oct 17, 1944 Mar 7, 2023

Martin Howard Heimlich died March 7, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born October 17, 1944 in Walla Walla, Washington to Raymond Lewis Heimlich and Betty Lois Howard. He married Kathleen Dawn Chamberlin May 8, 1976.

Martin served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Samoa. He loved the language, food and culture. He served in the United States Army for a total of four years. One of which was in Vietnam focused in communications, translating Vietnamese to English. Martin ended his term with the rank of E spec 5 Sergeant. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Martin loved to sketch, creating his own collection of cartoons. He spent time as a police officer as well as working at the prison. Martin also worked as a CDL truck and bus driver for some time, fascinated by the universe and all its beauty. He enjoyed sci-fi books and movies. Favorites were Star Wars and Star Trek. Really enjoyed The Bounty Hunter series, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. He also liked comedy specials: The Blue-Collar Comedy Tour and The Red Green Show; watching Bob Ross paint, but would always complain he never put any stars in his paintings.

Martin had a passion for food and the details of how things should be prepared. Favorites were Polynesian and Chinese foods. He was definitely a food critic. He truly loved his family and religion and was such a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be missed by so many friends and family.

Martin is survived by a brother Scott (Georgia); his sister Kathy; nephews: Dan (Dawn), Tony (Amanda), daughter, Bonnie (Eddie). Grandchildren: Alec, Nik and Maks; daughter; Tiffany; granddaughter Savannah. Great-grandchildren: Treah, Jadyn, Lilly, Lyla, Brooklyn, and Mia. Granddaughter, Sophie. Son, Nathan (Kasey), grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ethan and Andrew; daughter, Lorie. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, grandson, Taylor and a grandniece, Katarina.
