Martha Isom Whitehead was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 26, 1928, the oldest child of Alma and Cleone Smith Isom. She passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2022, at the age of 93. Martha married Calvin Clarence Whitehead in the Salt Lake Temple on December 30, 1947. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a lifelong, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, blessed with a rich heritage as a descendent of Hyrum, the brother of the Prophet Joseph Smith. She faithfully served throughout her life in various callings in the Church, including ward and stake Relief Society positions and Gospel Doctrine teacher.

She was very meticulous in all she did, from raising her children to sewing clothes, making candy; including professional grade chocolates, and making delicious, thrifty meals. She used her talent as a skilled seamstress while she worked at Utah Woolen Mills and Mormon Handicraft. She made a perfectly hand-stitched quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. Additionally, she crafted baby quilts for each of her great-grandchildren and made clothing, quilts, and other various items for humanitarian aid projects.

She is survived by her four children: Marleen (Stephen) Hirschi, Craig (L'Or L.) Ann Lynelden, Kent (Sheri), 17 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and two brothers, James (Dianna) Isom and Gilbert (Rosemary) Isom. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin and two brothers, Robert and Sam Isom. At Martha's request, a family graveside ceremony will be held on March 31, 2022, with a viewing one hour prior at Memorial Redwood Mortuaries and Cemeteries located at 6500 So. Redwood Rd. West Jordan, UT 84123. Online condolences may be left a www.memorialutah.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity.
