Marie Edwards Baker

Sep 27, 1928 Oct 8, 2023

Edna “Marie” Baker died at age 95, on October 8, 2023, at the home of

her daughter in Brigham City, Utah, Box Elder County, Utah. She was

born on September 27, 1928 in Brooker, Bradford County, Florida to Arthur

Allen and Lottie Norman Edwards. She was born at home, on the farm,

the middle of three children. She had an older brother Albert “Ernest” Edwards and a younger brother Harry George Edwards.

The family moved to Vanderbilt for a few years, and she attended 1st and

2nd grades in Starke, Florida. They then moved back to Brooker, where

she attended 3rd-9th grades. She attended Bradford High School in

Starke, where she graduated at age 16. She attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) in Tallahassee for one year.

She met Billy Gard Miller while he was stationed in Florida with the US

Navy. They married in Kingsland Georgia, on December 31, 1948. Their

first child, Kenneth Andrew Miller was born on their 3rd anniversary. They

moved to Salt Lake City, Utah about a year later. Their second child,

Sheila Marie Miller was born there, followed a year later by their third child,

Sharon Jean Miller. They were later divorced.

Marie worked at the telephone company in Jacksonville, Florida, before

they moved to Utah, and then worked for Garrett Freightlines in Salt Lake

City, Utah, for many years as an administrative assistant. She went to

work for Western Airlines in 1968 so she could travel. They later merged

with Delta Airlines, and she traveled to 33 countries over the years. When

asked which was her favorite country she eagerly answered “Fiji”.

She was also an avid golfer, bowler and played pinochle for more than 65

years. She was still playing cards with a group of friends up until shortly

before her death.

She married Robert B Baker in 1968, and again in 1972. They also later

divorced.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both brothers and most of her

friends. The women on her paternal side of the family all lived well into

their 90s, and she kept that streak alive!

She is survived by her son Kenneth A Miller (Linda) of North Salt Lake City,

Utah, her daughter Sheila M Davis (Todd) of Brigham City, Utah, and her

daughter Sharon H Forster of Lyman, Wyoming. She had 12 grandchildren, 36 Great-grandchildren and 7 Great-great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Independence Hospice, especially her nurse Hollie, for their loving care.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 17. 2023, at 2:00 pm at

Memorial Estates Redwood, with a viewing at 1:00 pm. She will then be

buried at Memorial Estates Redwood.
