Maribeth Merton passed away at age 75 on October 26, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer, while holding the hand of her husband of 52 years.
She was proceeded in death by her mother Ellyn Sparrow, her father in-law Ernest Merton Sr, and her mother in-law Frances Merton. She is survived by her brothers, Steven (LaRue) and Mark (Shirley) Sparrow; husband, Ernest Merton; children, Matthew (Tonya), Tamara, Shana (Gregg), Alyssa, Jamin, Kelby (Dar), and Katelyn; grandchildren Rylee, Kaden, Kieran, Traven, Lucia, Indio, Daisy and Ari; and her great grandchildren, Eliana, and Harmony. Harmony was born the day after her passing.
Maribeth was born in San Francisco, California and enjoyed the experience of living and traveling the world in her youth. She often reminisced about the joys of immersing herself in many different cultures and speaking several different languages while growing up.
She married her husband Ernest in San Antonio, Texas, where they started their family before moving to Brigham City, Utah in 1975, and finally settling in Tooele, Utah in 1983.
Maribeth started her career as a nurse’s aide in her teens, but always dreamed of becoming a Registered Nurse, which she accomplished at the age of 45 while raising 7 children. She graduated from Utah State University with an RN and BS degree in Liberal Arts.
Maribeth was very talented. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and crafts. She also loved singing, playing piano and guitar as well as performing on stage and acting throughout her life. She dearly loved all the family pets, but especially Max, the last dachshund they would own.
She was an avid researcher of family history, which was one of her many passions, and was devoted to the LDS church. She was sealed to her family in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1980. With all her accomplishments, her greatest joy was her children and grandbabies.
We will all love and miss you Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother!

“Dear Loved ones,
It's a hard time to have Maribeth taken away so early in her life. She was truly loved by all our family, her husband and all her children. She will be dearly missed by all of us.
I can remember her laughter, her great wisdom and her guidance.
She always seemed to have a joyful smile, very cheerful seeing the day full of adventure. She always seemed to laugh to help us cope.
She held it all together and kept the family love going.”
