Margie Ruth Rich

Dec 22, 1944 Apr 6, 2024

Margie Ruth Rich passed away on April 6, 2024 in South Jordan, Utah at the age of 79. She was born on December 22, 1944 to Peter and Marjorie Zina (Howard Brinkerhoff in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Margie grew up on Shelly Avenue in South Salt Lake and graduated from Granite High School. Her bedroom walls were covered with pictures of the singer, Pat Boone and she continued to listen to his music all her life.

Margie met and fell in love with Lyle Rich. They lived in several locations in the Salt Lake Valley and finally settled in Magna, Utah. Lyle passed away and Margie was now on her own and managed to stay in her home for many years with the help of a great neighbor, Jolee Austin, who assisted her with taking her medications and some upkeep of the house. Eventually, it became necessary for Margie to have some in-home health care and Margie was now being assisted by two wonderful and professional Atlas Home Health Care Angels, Karen and Sammy. Margie loved Karen and Sammy and looked forward to their visits even though there were difficult times as Margie’s health continued to decline. The day came when Margie needed 24-hour care and with a great deal of reluctance agreed that she should sell her home and move to an assisted care facility to have someone else do all the cleaning and cooking.

Margie and Lyle were avid square dancers and traveled all over the United States to attend Square Dance Conventions and be instructed by the best of the best callers. As summertime conditions would allow, they often traveled to these conventions on a large motorcycle. Margie was so comfortable on the machine that she would often fall asleep. Margie was a talented seamstress and made the square dance dresses for her and Ruthann.

For many years Margie worked as a hairstylist. She was very, very good at her profession and eventually became an instructor at Hollywood Beauty College. Hollywood Beauty College closed for business and Margie found a new profession in the hotel industry and worked for many years at the Red Lion Hotel in the reservations office while still doing hair in her home salon.

In Margie’s vast collection of newspaper clippings was an article and picture of her surviving son, Micheal P. Rich, who was on top of a cable car at Snowbird Ski Resort where he continues to maintain the tram. She was so very proud of his accomplishments.

Margie is preceded in death by her spouse Delyle Rich; father Peter Brinkerhoff; mother Marjorie Brinkerhoff; siblings George Howard Brinkerhoff, Colleen McLendon, Duane Brinkerhoff, Lois Lyn Brinkerhoff, Dawna Lee Brinkerhoff, and daughter Ruthann Millaye.
