Luke Thomas DeLaMare

Apr 25, 2001 Sep 11, 2019

Our light-bringer, Luke Thomas DeLaMare, lived a life full of love and joy. From the beginning to the very end of his short 18 years, he seized life, radiated enthusiasm, and lifted those around him with his infectious smile and optimism.

Never was there a boy more eager to get outside and find an adventure. He loved all things outdoors, including hiking, rock-climbing, mountain biking, skiing, backpacking, wake-boarding, long-boarding, shooting, motorcycling, and, frankly, anything to do with fire. Luke was blessed with a ridiculous amount of coordination and the ability to “send it.” He was known for his flips, tricks and big air.

Luke drew comfort from the beauty of the earth and loved nothing more than a blazing sunset, a gentle sunrise, the view from the summit of a mountain, and sleeping under the stars. And, he loved his dog Indie.

Luke was an entrepreneur and a hard worker who started his own lawn mowing business at age 11. He played competition soccer, worked at Bountiful Bicycle, was a talented photographer, earned his Eagle Scout award, went on a Humanitarian trip to Peru, graduated from Bountiful High School, and went skydiving to celebrate his 18th birthday.

People flocked to Luke because he naturally loved everyone regardless of their walk in life. He was inclusive and kind-hearted, spontaneous and clever, hard-working and strong, loyal and true. He had a witty sense of humor and a heart of gold. Luke’s far-reaching influence touched countless lives during his valiant fight against cancer. On the night he died, friends paid tribute at his home and held vigils on his street.

Luke had a deep and abiding love for his Savior Jesus Christ, and experienced firsthand the cleansing and healing power of His Atonement. As Luke’s battle with Glioblastoma Grade 4 Brain Cancer came to an end, he exclaimed, “Can you believe that the Savior suffered this much, plus more for us?” Luke fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith. He overcame sorrow and pain with the world’s best attitude and an eternal perspective that life extends past the grave, and that families are forever. Luke always wanted to serve a mission and made great strides to be worthy and ready to serve alongside his best friend and sister, Sage, who is currently a missionary in Japan.

Luke’s far-reaching influence touched countless lives during his valiant fight against cancer.

Luke was born on a beautiful spring morning in Bountiful; he started his new adventure in the next life on September 11, 2019 while surrounded by family and loved ones in his home. We love our Luke, and pray that those who want to pay tribute to his wonderful life will do so by striving each day to live their best and make a difference. Luke strived for life and adventure and he strived to let his light shine as his favorite scripture says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) Luke taught us that light conquers fear and love conquers pain. Live on Luke! Serve with all your might, mind and soul - and enjoy backflipping with your new found freedom!

Luke was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his parents, Rich and Amy DeLaMare of Bountiful, Utah, and his 5 siblings, Sage (20), Seth (15), Ava (15), Elsa (12), and Clare (8); his grandparents, John & Carolyn DeLaMare, and Ron & Irene Stout; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
