Lowell had various things that he loved in and about life, but none more important than his family, his church, and his country. He was an incredible and talented athlete and had a love of softball and basketball, and was a devoted BYU Cougar fan.

He learned things about himself and life, and honed skills while herding sheep throughout his childhood and young adult years. After graduating from high school in 1946, he worked on the Railroad until he served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission from 1948-1950. Upon his return home from his mission, he served in the Korean War from 1950-1951. After returning home from Korea he met the love of his life, Maureene Wilde, from Cokeville, Wyoming, and they married in the Logan Temple on July 27, 1953.

In 1954 he was blessed with a son, Michael Lowell Larsen, that he loves and treasures. He taught Michael many attributes while growing up that bless his life today. Lowell loves his son very much and always was devoted to and proud of him and his dear wife Diana.

In 1962 his daughter Shara was born, and she worships her father to this day. She and her Father were lifelong pals, and because of him, she’s the woman she is today.

Lowell worked for Monsanto in Soda Springs, Idaho until he answered an ad in a Utah paper for an apprentice Mortician; he applied and was hired in 1967, working there for a year before moving to California for schooling. He graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in 1969, then continued working in the mortuary business in California, then later in Utah. Upon moving back to Utah he worked at the Office of the Medical Examiner for the State of Utah from 1976-1996, until he retired.

He served a mission on Temple Square, and spent a lifetime in different callings in his church devotion, but nothing was more important to him than being a Home Teacher. He was whole heartedly devoted to and had a love for, the families he was assigned to. He became a part of them, and to this day is loved by those people with whom he served so many years ago. He loved his ward and neighborhood in Willow Creek for over 30 years. He would come home from work, eat a quick dinner, put a shirt and tie on, and race out the door happily, to meet with his Home Teaching families.

In 2006-2007 he and Maureene served a mission in the Raleigh North Carolina Mission, where they fell in love with the South and the people there, so much so that when their mission was over they sold their home in Utah and moved to Burlington, NC. They loved the Saints in that part of the country and were devoted to them.

He kindly and lovingly took care of his sweetheart Maureene in their golden years, and never complained. He has always put her needs first above his, and taken very good care of her, making sure she had the biggest and the best of anything she needed or wanted. Her happiness was the utmost in his life, and he made sure that every single day, she was his number one priority.

He will be greatly missed. He was a real man, a man that stood for something, and represented many honorable things. He loved his country! He was quick to smile and laugh and tell you a joke, or a story, and left you better than he found you. He was appreciative for anything and everything you did for him. He was a man of integrity, loyalty, commitment, honor, honesty, and devotion.

He loved and adored his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. He loved his daughter in law Diana and listening to her beautiful voice, and their trips back East with Michael and Diana were among his happiest memories. He also loved his son-in-law Bart, who toward the end of Lowell’s life, devoted many hours in helping Lowell and taking care of his every need. Bart and Lowell are dear friends.

He is survived by his wife Maureene; son, Michael (Diana); daughter, Shara MacKay (Bart); grandchildren: Catherine Warden, Deirdre Warden Snyder (Rich), Ashley MacKay Rasmussen (Joel), Courtney MacKay, Maren MacKay Jensen (Jared), Marcus MacKay, Derek MacKay; great-grandchildren: Ava, Jacob, and Vivi Snyder, and Lucy, Nora, and Scout Rasmussen; and other extended family members.
