Lawrence "Larry" C. Rawlins, 67, a longtime resident and prominent Pocatello businessman, died Sunday at the Bannock Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 26, 1918 in Cornish, Utah, to Eugene and Abbie Blair Rawlins, the fourth of eight children.

On Feb. 6, 1938 he married Edith Elva Mecham in Pocatello. The marriage was solemnized on Feb. 6, 1957 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Mr. Rawlins served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. Prior to entering the service, he worked for Cordon's Pie Shop. After returning from the service, he started his own business of Larry's Pie Shop, which he owned and operated for many years. Then he started in the gas business which is now known as Van Gas, as area manager.

On Jan. 2, 1969 he began his own business of Larry's Gas Service, which he owned and operated until his death.

He played baseball and softball since his youth, enjoyed golfing and hunting.

He was a member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings, including a member of the bishopric, Sunday school president, high counselor, and Young Men's president.

He is survived by his wife of Pocatello; two sons, Delbert Rawlins, Boise; Larry Rawlins, Pocatello; three daughters, Mrs. Dick (Carolyn) Winn, Boise; Mrs. Alan (JeDeanne) Thomas, Pocatello; Mrs. Brent (Michelle) Lott, Idaho Falls; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Bessie) Lish, Pocatello; Mrs. Ralph (Lena) Henderson, Pocatello; a brother, Don Rawlins, Menan; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the LDS 33rd Ward, Chubbuck Stake, with Bishop D. Lee Merrill officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Henderson Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th.

    When Larry was about 2 years old his father was transferred by the Utah Idaho Sugar Co. to Rigby, Idaho. Later they moved to Sugar City, Shelly, then back to Rigby. Later his dad went to work for the railroad and moved the family to Pocatello.

    At 16 years old he bought his first car, a Model T Ford. Larry loved cars and owned approximately 35 different cars during his lifetime.

    At about 18 he got a job working at Cordon's Pie Shop for $12 a week. It was around this time that he started going to dances and met a beautiful blonde girl named Edith. He got into a water fight with her and her friends which led to their dating.

    At 19, Larry married Edith Mecham in Pocatello, Idaho.

    Larry was deployed overseas during WWII. He fought in the European theater in France and Germany.
