Larry Gene Averett, age 81, died at home after a valiant battle with cancer, December 24, 2021. He was born December 29, 1940 in Worland, Wyoming, the son of Eugene Wilcock Averett and Zella (Nielson) Averett.
Larry graduated from Worland High School, class of 1959. Following graduation, he married the love if his life, Darlene Blank. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on 12 June 1961. Larry was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different callings including Branch President, High Priest Group Leader and three Bishoprics. Larry and Darlene served as temple workers in three temples. They served two missions (Georgia, Atlanta North, Winter Quarters, Nebraska).
He owned Larry’s Body Shop, worked as a field adjuster for Prudential Insurance, and was a general handyman. After retirement, he took up woodworking. Larry was very Christlike and loved everyone that he met. Strangers became instant friends. He loved making and giving away items from his woodworking shop. He was on a bowling league and dearly loved everyone at the Bowling Alley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Averett, mother, Zella Averett, two brothers, Ray and Rex Averett, and sister, Penny Judkins.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Blank) Averett, children, Larry Brent Averett (Kristi), Michelle Raymond (Christian), Gary Lee Averett (Heather), 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Jacklin Tew (Harky), and brother, Brad Averett (Artis).
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Salt Lake Millcreek 2nd Ward, 4220 South Jeannine Drive (420 East) in Millcreek, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the funeral service.
