Kirsten Andersen Aase, our loving wife, mother, grandmother (Farmor), great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on a beautiful sunny day, June 5, 2025. Kirsten was born in Aalborg, Denmark, on May 8, 1936, the daughter of Aage Thorvald Andersen and Anna Marie Jensen Andersen. She married Rolf Aase on August 6, 1955, in Salt Lake City, UT, and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Kirsten joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 12, in Denmark, and then immigrated to the US with her parents and sister, Hanne, in March 1950. She was a very active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Relief Society, Primary, Library, Activities Committee, as well as other callings. Kirsten, with her dear friends Ruth Nielsen and Ellinor Sorensen, served for many years in the Danish Transcription Program at the LDS Church Office Building. Later, Kirsten and Rolf were called as missionaries to the Norwegian Extraction Program. They were also part of a weekly family sealings temple group for over 25 years.
Kirsten was a dedicated wife and mother, dedicating many years to raising her three boys and taking care of Rolf and her home. Kirsten also worked outside the home – at a phone company, a fabric store, and two clothing stores. Kirsten was always in style, and her hair was perfect. Kirsten was an excellent cook, a skill she learned from both her parents. She insisted that her boys learn to cook as well, which they all do. She was an avid reader and knitter, often seen with a book or a ball of yarn in her lap. She loved crocheting blankets, creating needlepoint pictures, and cross-stitch crafts. Kirsten and Rolf also enjoyed hosting parties and get-togethers for dinner and games – whether it was playing Bridge, Chinese Gin, Hand & Foot, or Dominoes, she often came out the winner. Her grandchildren will attest to her being a competitive and savvy card player, or “card shark” as they would call her.
Kirsten and Rolf loved to travel; they took countless cruises with friends, but their favorite places to visit were Cancun and Newport Beach. She was always game for a vacation with her husband and family, but most of her and Rolf’s travels over the last 25 years were to visit their three sons and their families in various states. They tried to attend nearly every special event in their grandchildren’s lives - from baptisms and graduations, to dance, choir, and music concerts; from school and community plays, to gymnastics competitions, swim meets, and other sporting events. They were always cheering on their grandkids and took great pride in all their achievements.
Kirsten’s greatest joy was her family. She was kind and giving, a compassionate listener, the perfect host, fun and competitive, and a dear friend. She will be greatly missed.
Kirsten is survived by her sons Jan Erik (Laci), Flemming (Kristi), and Steven (Laura), her grandchildren: Paige (Christopher) McNulty, Maren (Dakoda) Willden, Maddie (Matt) Zackrison, Shelby (Jonathan) First, Abby Aase, Kate Aase, Dayna (JT) Smith, Regan Aase, Avery Aase, and Evan Aase; and eight great-grandchildren: Parker, Eleanor and Aubrey (McNulty), Jackson, Miles and Zoey (Zackrison) and Nora and Cory (Willden). She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolf Aase, her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Hanne and Monte Hales, and her great-grandson, Aaron McNulty.
A private family graveside service will be held on June 21, 2025, at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary. Friends may leave well wishes and fond memories of Kirsten on the Larkin Legacy website at LarkinMortuary.com/obituary.
